Baked chicken with grapes is another conversation piece. Add pitted halved grapes to the chicken gravy just as it's being removed from the heat. Kor a bridge luncheon or a Sunday night supper, team grapes and shrimp, and just because it is so good, add a bit of curry pow der to the mayonnaise. CURRIKD GRAPE AND SHRIMP SALAD 1 Jb. cooked deveined shrimp 1 cup Emperor, Almcria or Calmeria grapes, halved and pitted ?i cup diced celery la teaspoon salt l'i teaspoons curry powder la teaspoon ground black pepper ' cup mayonnaise 2 tablespoons sour cream Salad greens fresh parsley Save out 6 of (Jio largest and most attractive whole shrimp for garnish. Cut remaining shrimp into about 3 pieces each. Combine with grapes and celery. Add seasonings to may onnaise and mix with sour cream. Add hi shrimp mixture. Toss lightly. Serve on salad greens. Garnish each with par sley and a whole tJuimp. Yield: 8 servings. BAKED CHICKEN WITH CRAPES 3 lb. ready-to-cook broiler diiiken Hi cups chicken broth or l'a bouillon cubes and Hi cups boiling valor 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh onion 1!4 teaspoons salt si teaspoon groiuid thyme li tcaj-poon ground black pep)er ! teaspoon finely chopped presh garlic 5 teaspoons cornstarch 5 teaspoons v. atcr 1 cup Emperor grapes. pitted and halved 1 tablespoon cooking sherry Wash and split chickens. Place in a 15' j x W'j x 2i inch baking' dish. Add enough chicken broth to half cover the chicken. Combine onion, salt, thyme, ground black pepper r ITOPS IN QUALITY!! J LOW IN PRICE j and garlic. Add to chicken Bake, uncovered, in a preheat ed moderate oven (350 F.) l'i hours or until chicken is tender. Remove chicken to a serving dish. Thicken liquid in pan with cornstarch mixed with the wa ter. Add grapes and cooking sherry. Serve hot with gravy. Yield: 6 servings. GRAPE AND SHRIMP CURRY 2 lbs. raw fresh or frozen shrimp Wi tablespoons chopped shallot or onion 1 teaspoon curry powder 1 tablespoon butter or mar garine ; ',i cup shrimp stock li teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons flour 2 tablespoons butler or margarine 1-3 cup milk 1 cup Emperor grapes, halved and seeded Peel and devcin shrimp, re serving slirimp shells for mak ing stock. Saute shallot or on ion and curry powder until on ions are limp in butter or mar Sarins in a Hi quant saucepan. Add shrimp, slirimp stock and salt. Cover and cook over very low heat 11 minutes or u'n t i I shrimp turns red. Remove shrimp to a heat-proof serving dish and keep warm while mak ing sauce. Cook pan liquid until it has reduced ono-third. Blend flour with butler or margarine and add to sauce along with milk. Stir and cook 1 to 2 min utes or until thickened. Add grapes and pour over shrimp. Garnish with small clusters Emperor grapes. To make shrimp stock: Wash shrimp shells, place In a sauce pan with 2 cups cold water, li teaspoon salt and 6 pepper corns. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Pour llirough a sieve to slrain out shells. Yield: 6 servings. GRAPE AND CAULIFLOWER SLAW 2 cups shredded raw cauli flower 1 cup Emperor. Almcria or Calmeria grapes, halved and seeded 3 tablespoons mayonnaise 2 tablespoons sour cream U teaspoon salt ' teaspoon anise seed 1-16 teaspoon ground while pepper Head lelluco Small clusters grapes Fresh parsley Place cauliflower and grapes in a lnl. Combine tiie next 5 ingredients. Add to cauliflower and grapes. Mix lightly. Serve on licad lettuce. Garnish w i t h small clusters of grapes and parsley. ! ..... TED HYDE Here are several recipes for quick meals when you've been downtown shopping. You know the family likes hamburgers but you have a little guilty feeling and want to give them some thing that shows more effort, yet doesn't take time! Frozen shredded potatoes cook up quickly for hashed browns, a vegetable or salad, and pudding or fruit served in pro-baked or purchased tart shells with whipped cream, and your fam ily will think you ve been work ing over a hot stove all day! TOMATO . CIIKESKBURGERS (6 servings) 1'4 lbs. lean ground beet 1 small onion, chopped 2 tablespoons fat or oil l'i teaspoons salt V4 teaspoon pepper 1 No. 303 can tomatoes "a lb. sharp cheddar cheese, diced Brown beet and onion In hot fat or oil. Pour excess fat from pan. Season beef mixturo with salt and pepper. Add tomatoes. Cook tor 15 to 20 minutes, or until mixture in pan has ab sorbed most of the juice. Add diced cheese and cook for about five minutes longer. Serve on hot soft buns. BARRECUED HAMBURGERS l'i lbs. lean ground beef 1 small onion, minced 2 tablespoons fat or oil 2 tablespoons brown sugar '.4 cup hot ketchup 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauco Salt and pepper Brown meat and onion in hot fat or oil. Break up meat with fork while cooking. Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer for about 15 minutes. Spoon over toasted buns. HAMBURGER-ONION ROLLS 1 lb. lean ground beef 1 medium-sized onion, grated Dash Tabasco , 2 tablespoons chill sauce 1 egg 1 teaspoon ' Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon prepared mus tard Salt and pepper Hamburger rolls, or split French bread Combine all ingredients ex cept rolls, mix well. Split rolls; spread meat mixture on cut sur faces. (Be sure to bring meat to edges.) Broil for about 10 minutes, with surface of meat three inches beneath heating unit or clement. Serve at once.
