" The Trojans of l2-63 went through a winless league cam paign residing in the basement with a 0-14 record and posted an overall season mark of 3-16. Potentially, the Trojans could better this set of marks consid erably this year. The Trojans have the tenth ranked league scorer returning in 6-1 senior Pete Krok. A fine ball player of whom Cariaga says ". . . a real hard driver, with good moves." Krok paced the Trojans last year with a league scoring to tal of 179 points for a per game average of 12.8. He's a two-year veteran who goes either at for ward or guard. Another two-year man figured to help the Trojan cause is sen ior guard Marv Davis, standing 5-7. Davis hit for 4 points in 11 games for a 7.6 average last year, with his good outside work. "He has a good eye and moves well," Cariaga offers. The Trojans counted a total turnout of 20 for the varsity ranks, w ith six lettermen in this number. Top board work is expected from one-year veteran Chuck Malani (5-9 a senior forward. By United Press International The Detroit Lions, until re cently the biggest disappoint ments of the National Football League season, suddenly have become the bogey-men of both conference races. The Lions, who complicated matters in their own Western Division by playing a Thanks giving Day tie with the Green Bay Packers, could make things rough for the Cleveland Browns in the Eastern Division Sunday at Detroit. And on the final Sunday of the regular season, the Lions UBC Next For Beavers By United Press International Oregon State and the Univer sity of Portland, both unbeaten after the first weekend of the collegiate basketball season, put their records on the line tonight and Saturday night. The Beavers face University of British Columbia tonight and Washington Saturday night at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, while Portland plays a two-night stand at San Jose State. Oregon, which lost two games to Stanford last weekend, is idle until Monday, when it takes on Washington at Eugene. Oregon State is expected to have an easy time with UBC tonight, but Washington showed its ability by wihipping Texas Western in an opener last week end. Steve Wilson, 6-7, is the big gun in the Huskies' attack. Seven - footer M e 1 Counts scored 62 points in two games last weekend as the Beavers collected two wins over Wash ington State. He will be joined in the starting lineup by Jim Jarvis, Frank Peters, Scott Ea ton and probably Dave Fox. have a date with the Chicago Bears. The Bears actually could clinch the Western title this weekend, but they would need help from the Los Angeles Rams. Los Angeles, which has won five of its last seven panics, takes on Green Bay Saturday afternoon in a nationally tele vised game from the West Coast. Should the Rams upset the Packers, the Bears could win the Western title by beating the San Francisco Forty Ainers in Chicago on Sunday. Chicago leads the division with a record of nine victories, one defeat and two tics; Green Bay has nine wins, two losses and one tie. In the Eastern Division, where the New York Giants are at home against the Washington Redskins and the St. Louis Car dinals entertain the Philadelphia Eagles, the race could have one, two or three leaders by sundown. New York and Cleveland are tied with 9-3 records; St. Louis is close behind with 8-4. A Giants victory coupled with a Cleveland loss at Detroit would assure New York of at least a tie for first place at the close of the regular season. However, setbacks by the Giants and Browns coupled with a Cardi nals' victory would put all three clubs back into a tie. In Sunday's two other games, the Dallas Cowboys (3-9 are at home against the Pittsburgh Steclers 6-3-3) and the Balti more Colts (6-6) play at home against the Minnesota Vikings (4-7-11. VanCamp, another forw aid standing 5-10 and a senior and Mike McNeary 5-7 ', a junior guard. Additional help from the ju nior varsity ranks comes from 6-2 sophomore George Schwartz at center and guard Larry Nil kenson, a junior standing 5-9. The Trojans will run from a high and low post, with a pat tern offense and ma'n-to-mom defense employed for the most part.
