Ken nedy and his wife. Rose. 1940 Graduated from Har vard cum laude with a bachelor of science degree. 1940 Published best selling book, "Why England Slept." 1941-45 Served in the U.S. Navy. Rose to rank of lieuten ant in command of a PT boat. In 1943 was badly injured when his boat was rammed bv a Ring Placed In Casket SAN ANTONIO, Tex. L'PI' Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy pressed her wedding ring into the hand of her dead husband, seconds before his coffin was closed, Hep. Henry B. Gon zales, D-Tex., said Saturday. Gonzales described the inci dent in radio interview on sta tion KTSA. "She kissed her husband and touched his hand," the congress man said. "She removed her wedding ring and placed it in tils hand." The casket was closed then, and the sorrowful return to Washington begun. Estes Kefauver, D-Tenn. 1957 Became the father of his first child, Caroline. 1958 Won reelection to the Senate by an overwhelming vote. 1960 On July 14, he won the Democratic presidential nomina tion on the first ballot. 1960 In November he defeat ed Vice President Richard M. News Told To Father HYANNIS POUT. Mass. (UIMI A heart-sick family broke the sad news Saturday to ailing Jo seph P. Kennedy that his son was assassinated. A doctor was in the family midst for fear disclosure of the tragedy might worsen the con dition of the 75-year-old patri arch of tile Kennedy clan. The elder Kennedy's reaction was not known oirtside the sprawling while house over looking Nantucket Sound where he and President Kennedy sailed and frolicked in happier days. Perhaps indicative that the father took the news hard was the apparent delay in the fam ily's previously indicated plans to fly to Washington shortly aft er noon. Mrs. Rose Kennedy, the Pres ident's 72-year-old mother, at tended two Masses in a Catho lic church and then went home to tell her husband what the world had known for nearly 20 hours that their son was mor tally wounded by a snier. Mrs. Kennedy, her son, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, and married daughter, Mrs. Eunice Shriver. all were present when father Kennedy was informed. Kennedy, former ambassador to Great Britain, suffered a stroke in December, 19B0. which left him virtually unable to talk. He spends most of his time in a wheel chair. CLOSED THANKSGIVING DAY!
