Newspaper Page TextHistory, Goals, Methods Of Communism Outlined By Kingsley Field Expert Before Realtors Meet - "I have the privilege (o an nounce that the United States has entered World War III." With these startling words. Kingsley Field Air force engi neering officer, opened his talk Monday before the K 1 a m a t b Board of Realtors. Williams traced the history, structure, goals and methods of world communism (or the real tors at luncheon meeting at the Winema Hotel. He said the war between the United States and communism is the "greatest conflict" the world has ever known. "Ttiere are very few guns involved in 'it," he said. "The outcome of the war will determine who controls the minds of men on this earth," he said. He said communism Is out to control the whole world and the United States is the "last bas tion" of resistance to the Com munists. Captain Williams, who has made a private study of com munism, said the modern Com munist movement is generally believed to have started in the mid-1800s with the writing by Karl Marx, a German, of the "Communist Manifesto." is for the Communist movement which advocates violent over throw oi present non-communist govemment'j throughout the world. "None of the ideas are orig inal," Williams said of the Communist Manifesto. He said Europe in the mid 1800s was in a sla'.e of political and economic turmoil with the peasants becoming tired of one feudal system and "preparing for revolution." It was into this political turmoil that the Com munists stepped, forming secret societies throughout Europe. Communism was formally or ganized in 1847, Williams told his audience, with a meeting in London oftheCommunist League. After this eecret meet ing, Marx was appointed to condense the policies of this meeting and form a Commu nist view of history. This history was traced by Williams on a chart. It draws illiat the Communist theory of history as beginning with prim itive society in which man lived In communal units. This was replaced, the chart showed, with ancient society and a master clave relation ship, then with the feudal s o c I e t y and a lord - serf re lationship. The Com munist plan shows socialism as the next step with the dictator ship of the proletariat and the masses, and this, theoretically, is supposed to be replaced by "pure" communism and the "classless society" or "upotia " But, William noted, present Communist leaders show no de sire to step down and form tho classless society. Modern communism came to the foreground in 1917 with an organized revolt of hungry persons in St. Petersburg, Rus sia. This protest was then taken over by Communists, William said, and the royalty was as sassinated. But into this void stepped a man known as "Karenski" who established the first and last democratic Russian govern ment. It was soon toppled by Communists led by Lenin, who came into Russia from exile, aided by the German govern ment which was then at war with Russia. Lenin lasted until 1022, when he died of a heart attack. Wil liams said Lenin was less con cerned with developing Runia than he was m eliminating op position to himself during his brief reign. After his death, Sa lin and Trotsky battled until Sta lin won control end Trotsky was exiled to Mexico. He was later assassinated. Williams said that despite ev erything, "Stalin was quite a leader in his own right." The captain said Stalin concentrated on developing Russian agricul ture and industry. After Stalin's death in 1953, another battle raged until Khrushchev eventually emerged as the chief of the government which he still heads. Williams said Khrushchev has shifted the internal Russian emphasis from agriculture and Industry to ed ucation and science and some what has slowed the spread of world communism. He said there is no doubt that Russia is "the second strongest nation in the world right now." Turning from history to pres ent strategy, Williams said the Communists in Russia move ahead with their policy of con quest with three main weapons treaties, propaganda, eco nomic aid and military might. Williams said that since 1917 the Soviets have negotiated 33 major treaties and hundreds of minor ones. Of the 33, he said, 32 have been broken by the So viets, Heaving only the latest Says Russia 'Buy Time' chev's contradictory statements about the moon race indicate that Russia "presently is in no position cither to continue nu clear testing or to compete in a race to the moon." Russia's actions and pro nouncements all could be de signed with no purer motives than to buy time for solving in ternal problems and for re newed aggression when the time is right," he said. "Amer ica cannot afford to nap while the Soviet Union administers oxygen to itself." Foley said he favored a sug gestion made recently by Allen Dulles, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, that tlie United States move forward, confident of superior power, to a "peaceful confron tation with communism." Foley said the confrontation should be made in tlie areas of international trade, relations with newly independent nations and education. "I shudder to think of tlie possibilities should tlie Western world, and America in particu lar, slww any signs of weak ness, which the Communists be lieve they could exploit, and this is why I say that a healthy national economy has signifi cant international implications in this era of cold war." PAGE (B HERALD AND Old Ship Will Begin New Role HONOLULU (UPI)- The 85-ycar-old four-masted sailing ship, the Falls of Clyde, has come back home not to die, but to begin a new Jife. The 1,800-ton ship tied up Sunday at Honolulu Harbor's Pier 14, where she will be con verted into a maritime museum. As tlie Falls of Clyde rounded Diamond Head, she was met by a National Guard helicopter, several Air Force jets and the fireboat Abnor T. Longlcy. Unofficially, she was met by dozens of small craft which cruised around the mass of rot ted timbers and rusted steel. The helicopter showered the Falls of Clyde with masses of flowers, the fireboat shot five streams of water around her, and the jets tipped their wings in a homecoming salute. Too feeble to travel by her self, tlie Falls of Clyde was towed on the 2fcday, 2,300-mile trip from Seattle by the Navy tug Moctobi. Just off Waikiki, the Moctobi cut the two-line and let two smaller Navy tugs complete the trip to Pier 14.
