The contract bridge summary recently published by A I b e r t Morehead follows: "If you have a choice of plays in order to establish a trick or tricks i you should play so as to keep Uic opponent who can make a destructive lead from getting in." Today's hand as played by George Eapee of New York il lustrates this type of play. He won the opening club lead with dummy's queen and promptly led a low heart to ward his own hand. East played the four and Georg.i played the nine. He was afraid of a spade lead from East and was going to avoid letting him get in. West was in with the jack and led his ten of clubs. He wasn't going to let George make his king of spades. Now George played out the rest of the hearts. He discard ed his three of spades after the queen dropped. Then he cashed his high diamonds and his king of clubs and wound up by throwing poor West in with the nine spot. By this time everyone w a s down to three cards. West held the high club and the ace-queen of spades, whereupon George was unkind enough to throw him in with the club. West was forced to lead a spade after all, and George wound up with an overtrick. Learn the pre-emptive jump over-call with a copy of "Win at Bridge."
