House Approves 'Porkless' Public Works Bill . WASHINGTON (I'PII - Hie 'House Tuesday approved a (4.1 billion public works bill with iuembers heatedly denying that Shore was any "pork" in it. The vote was 359 to 27. The legislation, which still must be passed by the Senate, would provide funds during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1964, to finance flood control, harbor improvement and reclamation projects as well as the exten sive and non-related activities of the Atomic Energy Commis sion. Altcsmont School News By PATTIE VAUGHN Altamont Junior High stu dents recently held their annual magazine drive. Students re ceived prizes for selling sub scriptions and a party was giv en to each room that exceed ed its quota. Our highest sales man was Jodean Loper who sold $101.31. Next highest were Randy Kerr with $86.30, Terry Hansen with $81.04, and Nancy 'Payne with $1)5.04. This year $4,479.04 was taken in compared with $4,578.05 last year. The school got 30 per cent of the sales of most of the maga zines and 50 per cent of the sales of a few of the maga zines. The money is used for books for the library, sports equipment, etc. The Altamont eighth grade has played several football games. On Oct. 19 we went to Grants Pass to play South Grants Pass. The score was 19 to 6 our favor. We played Fremont on Oct. 29. We scored 13 and Fremont scored 22. The seventh grade has played four games. The first was on Oct. 19 when we played the the Fremont Midgets. Fremont won 21 to 0. On Oct. 26 we played Roosevelt and beat them 39 to 0. The third game was with Conger and Riverside com bined versus Altamont. We beat them 19 to 6. We played Mills on Nov. 7. They scored 6 and we scored 0. Tills was the best game the seventh grade has played for the score was made in the last few minutes of the game. Wash., was en route home to day following one of the most bizarre fraternity "kidnapings. Garner said he was "kid naped' early last Friday mor ning from his bed in Tacoma, Wash., where he is vice pledge master of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Puget Sound Uni versity. Fraternity pledges taped his legs and handcuffed the pa jama clad senior. Following this, Gar ner was shuttled by car from pledge class to pledge class through three states for a dis tance of 1,500 miles. During this time 36 hours Garner went sleepless and ate only fruit and sandwiches.
