Freeman assured lumber indus try leaders Wednesday the for est service will adopt a system of annual balance reports on timber sales from national for ests. Hie reports, which had been requested by industry spokes men, would show actual timber sales in comparison with "al lowable cut" on each forest un der sustained-yield management methods. The reports would al so show potential sales under improved management condi tions, an industry spokesman, said. Freeman's statement was made at a meeting with mem bers of Congress from 19 states and leaders of the National Lumber Manufacturers Associa tion i.N'LMA). Ore., executive vice president of the industrial forestry associa tion and member of NLMA ad visory committee, said Freeman also proposed: A revised system for han dling appeals filed by lumber men in contract disputes with the forest service under the new proposal, review committees would bear appeals from rulings by regional forest service offi cials. The committees would in clude agriculture department of ficials from agencies outside tlie forest service and private citi zens. Negotiation between indus try spokesmen and the forest service on details of revised re quirements for timber .sales con tracts. Hagenstein said Freeman also announced he was prepared to accept pratically all of the rec ommendations of an impartial study committee on new ap praisal practices for timber on national forests. Remo Melchiori Jr., Klamath Falls, will appear Sunday, Nov. 10, on the Ed Sullivan Show (CBS) at 8 p.m. on Channel S. The young cadet will sing with the U.S. Military Academy Glee Club, "West Point's Ambassa dors of Song," under the direc tion of Col. William H. Schempf. The glee club is in its 35th year of public appearances. They sang recently at the Army-Air Force games in Chi cago. Cacet Melchiori, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Remo Melchiori Sr., (his city, and honor stu dent at Klamath Union High School from where he graduated four years ago, has continued his academic record while at West Point. He will graduate in June, 19(14. During the years he was in KUHS he played with the con cert band and the KUHS Sym phony Orchestra. He was appointed to West Point by U.S. Sen. Wayne Morse of Oregon. R. Vernon Succumbs LAKEVIEW - Ralph Vernon, 70, a resident of Lakeview for most of his life, died here Sun day, Nov. 3. He was born in Lakeview Sept. 1, 1893. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov, 6, at the Ous-ley-Osterman Chapel, with bur ial in the New Pine Creek Cemetery. Survivors include one son, Robert Ralph Vernon of Cali fornia; a daughter, Leona Scha mcl, Seattle; (our brothers, Willard and Frank, Lakeview; Cecil, San Jose, Calif.; Everett, address unknown: four sisters, Mrs. Dora Carrigcr, Vallejo, Calif.: Mrs. May Rchart, Med ford; Mrs. Hazel Wilson, Range ly. Mrs. Andrus was born in St. George, Utah, on Dec. 4, 1868, and lived at Macdoel from 1924 to KB6 when she moved to Gooding, Idaho, where her hus band, Sheridan Andrus, died in 1927. In 1946 she returned to Macdoel to make her home un til enteiing the hospital. Survivors include her daugh ter, Mrs. Howard Myers, Mac doel; three sons. Henry Andrus, Macdoel; Roy Andrus, Dorris; and Chauncey Andrus, M e d ford; a brother, Henry Schlap pi, St. George; several great grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in t h e Macdoel Community Church, with elders from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Interment will be in the Elm wood Cemetery at Gooding at 10 a.m. Monday. Girdner's Fu neral Chapel of Yrcka is in charge of arrangements. Friends may contribute to favorite charity in lieu of flow- Shasta Couple Escape Crash MOUNT SHASTA Snow on the highway resulted in a car slipping over a steep bank on Sunday, a half-mile cast of Bal tic on State Highway 8!). Richard H. Lang, accompa nied by his wife, Mabel, 413 Holly Street, Dunsmuir, rode the falling car to Ihe bottom. Neither was injured. Klamath Council Fathers Propose 'Senate' Of Bishops To Help Govern Church VATICAN CITY (UPI (-Ecumenical Council fatiiers from all parts of the world spoke up strongly today in favor of the establishment of a "senate" of bishops in Rome to help the Poe govern the church. The proposal for an episcopal senate composed of representa tives chosen by national hierar chies was endorsed in council debate by bishops from France, South Africa, Ireland and Indo nesia. In another highlight of today's debate.
