Members of the college faculties 6poke to seniors who had shown previous interest In that particular school and outlined the basic require ments and policies of that school. Colleges represented were Willimette University, Sa lem; Linfleld College, McMinn ville: Pacific University, Forest Grove; Cascade College, Port land; George Fox College, New berg; Lewis and Clark College, Portland; Marylhurst College, Marylhurst; University of Port land, Portland; Mt. Angel Col lege, Mt. Angel; Multnomah Junior College, Portland, and Heed College, Portland. Another college preparatory function for seniors was a pre liminary scholarship meeting to acquaint seniors with the neces sary information needed for ap plying for scholarships. Vicki Lake, freshman, was elected to the office of fourth vice president of the KU Stu dent Body during a recent all school election. Previous offices Vicki has held Include president of Fremont Junior High School in 196243, and president of her seventh grade class at Mills School. She was also a member ' of the National Junior Honor Society at Fremont. Vicki plans to attend Brigham Young Uni versity, Salt Lake City, Utah, and major in education when she graduates in four years. Carol Drew was elected pres ident of International Relations League on Monday, Oct. 7. IRL is an organization designed for selected junior and senior stu dents who have shown interest in current world problems and international affairs. T y a n a Payne was elected secretary. The remaining officers will bo elected from the junior mem bers when they are inducted la ter this month. "Blister the Twister" is the theme chosen for this year's homecoming. It was proposed by junior John Jcndrzcjcwski. K Club has chosen 10 girls from the senior class to compete for the title of Homecoming Queen, They are Patty Bratton, Laurie Bruns, Jana Erlandson, Sally H a n v i 11 c, Jan Houck, Pam Conn. Ann Lindlcy, Marilyn Yunck, Marilyn Patterson, and Kathy Luse. Each of these girls has been very active in both school and community affairs. A scmifinalist court will be an nounced at the annual bonfire held at Graham Brothers on Thursday, Oct. 17. The queen will be crowned from this group at tlie pep rally the following day. This year's homecoming game is against the Pels' tradi tional rival, Medford. Tlie KUHS rally squad will will travel to San Francisco this weekend wlien it will compete in the 49'er Pompon Hully Con test. British Policewomen Dodge 'Christine Questions1 During U.S. Tour HERALD AND NEWS, Klamath Falls, Oregon Wednesday, October 16, 1963 PAGE 5B NEW YORK (UPI) - Three British policewomen who have finished a three week auto tour of eastern Canada and the United States say the one ques tion they were asked most fre quently was: "Now. What about Christine Kccler?" Police superintendent Jean Stewart of the Lancashire Coun ty constabulary said the three developed the pat answer: "She is not in our district." Their visit was their first to North America and all agreed in an interview before returning home that they would be back just as soon as they could af ford tlie trip. The initial tour was sponsored by tlie Lancashire County con stabulary and the British Motor Corp., manufacturer of the MG sports car which the police use in their highway patrol work, and with the sanction of the British Home Office. Started in Canada They started in Montreal, con tinued on to Ottawa, Windsor and Toronto, then to Detroit, Cincinnati. Washington, and New York. "Your country is bigger and belter than I thought it would be." said Miss Stewart. She laughed as she added, "You say you've got this, you've got that in America. By golly, you have. And what steaks!" Their trip was crowded with visits with law enforcement of ficialsthe whole idea was one of furthering good will between the law enforcement agencies of the United States, Canada and England. But they also met plenty of unofficialdom a beauty shop operator in Detroit whose in formal "Honey" addressed to policewoman, Sheila Crigall, a 27-year-old brown-eyed brunette with six years on the Lanca shire force left her aghast. Short Haircut "She also cut my hair so short now they'll call me mister," laughed Miss Crigall. Everywhere they went, Miss, Mrs. and Mr. America, seeing them in their trim navy blue uniforms with white shirt and narrow black tie, stopped to talk. "We got used to hearing that wo were cute," said Winifred Cross, 28, auburn-haired and blue-eyed, and a policewoman for nearly eight years. "At first, we didn't know w hat they meant." The U.S. custom of saying, "you're welcome" in answer to a "thank you" still amazes them; it isn't the custom in Lancashire, they said. And the American "pleased to meet you" instead of the British "how do you do?" is another expres sion they're remembering to use on the folks back home. England's Second Largest The three are among the 122 policewomen on the Lancashire County force, England's second largest. There are 3,490 men. Miss Stewart, 51, born near Aberdeen, Scotland, has been in police work 23 years, 12 of them in Lancashire, an industrial part MILITARY RESERVATION Largest military reservation within a city's limits in the Unit erf States is San Francisco's Pre sidio. Chambers Learn Of Box Canyon Dam Efforts WEED Supervisor Don Av ery assured the directors of the Associated Chambers of Com merce of Siskiyou County Thurs day night that every effort is being made to explore the vari ous approaches to the construc tion cf a recreational dam at Box Canyon in southern Siski ty County. In a telephone conversation with Ernest Hayden, chairman of the associated chamber board, Avery said the most re cent action, the request of As semblywoman Pauline Davis (D-Portola, asking the board to go on record as the govern mental body responsible for the construction and mainte nance of Box Canyon Dam in order to qualify for David Grun sky Act funds, will be clarified by supervisors Clint Jackson and Earl Ager alter a confer ence with Mrs. Davis in Sacra mento. The matter is on the su pervisor's agenda next week. The associated chamber board members attending the monthly business meeting agreed to de lay further letters to Mis. Da vis and William E. Warne, di rector of the state department of water resources, endorsing Box Canyon Dam as a recreational facility and economic asset until the board of supervisors inves tigates this latest possibility. A study of the Siskiyou Coun ty Economic Commission, its present and potential effective ness, was recommended by the associated chamber to the five member chambers. "The economic development of the county vitally concerns the chambers of commerce," Hoy den said. AID FOR CLEFTS BETHESDA, Md. Using Own Infant On TV Show Has Advantages WASHINGTON (UPI - The youngest actor in a continuing series on television is four-month-old Matthew Smith, who plays the part of a baby on the Joey Bishop show. If you have ever seen this program you have probably said to yourself "that kid is one fine actor. Real Emmy Award stuff." Tlie truth is, however, that he is only half acting. When he is playing the part of Joey Bishop's son he is act ing. But when he is playing the part of Joey Bishop's wife's son he is not acting. This is because the part of Joey Bishop's w ife is played by Abby Dallon, who is the baby's real mother. Miss Dalton, or Mrs. Smith, was here on a promotion tour this week and I asked her if using her own baby on the show came under the heading of "type casting." If found in good health, he re ceives a work permit that is valid for two hours. However, he may not be photographed for more than 20 seconds at a time. A welfare worker holds a stop watch to make certain he doesn't work overtime. Janet Kerns will succeed Kathy Fleet as president of the Klam ath Union High group. Other officers to be Installed at the Nov. 6 meeting are Mikell Totton, secretary; Bonnie Farr, treasurer; Marge Stewart, service projects; Marcia Goehr ing, finance chairman, and Mary Jane B r i 1 1 o n and Nan Clark, council cabinet members. Karolyn Gattis and Dawn Veitch will be the installing officers. A report on the recent no host dinner in honor of the grad u a t e members was given by Nan Clark. Honored were Pa tricia Anderson, who returned to the University of Oregon, and Marie Briggs, who attends Southern Oregon College. Karolyn Gattis reported that the paperback book for the men at Camp White will be com pleted this month. Another group service project, children's books for the Fairview Home, will be completed in November, according to Mikell Totton. It was announced that Bar bara Padgett and Kathy Fleet will assist with Blue Bird groups. Dona Buck and Eliza beth Ough represented the club at a three-day conference at Camp Namonu in Portland last week. Advisers for the Semper Pa ratus Horizon Club are Mrs. Wayne Galloway and Mrs. Rob ert Clark, with Mrs. Harold Gat tis, Mrs. Dave Totton, and Mrs. Paul Buck as the new sponsors. Bands To Play At Teens Club MOUNT SHASTA The Big Teens Club of Mount Shasta will feature two bands at its next affair scheduled Saturday, Oct. 19, in the old armory in city park. The bands will be The Nocturnals and The Princetons. Admission is set pt 11 per person for tlie four-hour session of rock and roll music.
