In October of 1 957, a few women who liked to sing met in a group which later was sponsored by the PTA County Council and today is known as the Melody Mothers. Still PTA-sponsored, membership in that organiza tion and a real desire to sing are the only requirements for membership in Melody Mothers which now numbers between 30 and 35 women. Strict adherence to weekly practice sessions under' the direction of. Ellen Miller every Thursday night from 7:30 to 9:30 in Mills School music room has resulted in the Melody Mothers ability to provide music for any and all occasions. , Director Ellen Miller is shown above at right check ing musical scores with the group's accompanist, Anita Campbell. The women have sung for many civic functions and clubs and each year are featured in concert at the PTA state convention. Their music repertoire ranges from sa cred, spiritual and folk music to show tunes and popular standards.
