Lumber Shipments Above States PORTLAND (UPll British Columbia lumbermen shipped nearly twice as much lumber to markets than did the western U.S. during July. The Pacific Lumber Inspectioa Bureau said Wednesday B.C. lum ber companies shipped 175.7 mil lion board feet, compared wit'i 08 million board feet from Oregon. Washington and California. Approximately one-half of t n e Canadian shipments went to ihe United States' Atlantic Coajt. The Pacific Northwest lumber strike cut heavily into American shipments Ihe bureau said. During the first seven months of 1903, British Columbia mills shipped 648 million board feet to the Atlantic Coast. Tin three western states shipped 277 mil lion board foot. Shipments to Puerto Rico totalled 6.1 million from tlic U.S. and 42 million from British Columbia. Seed Check Results Told Field inspections of crops en tered under the seed certification program in Klamath County have been completed for this year. To tal potato acreage entered was 1.629 acres which is 105 acres lets than a year ago. Fifty-four acres did not meet standards and were turned down during the two field inspections. Other crops certified totaled 1,661 acres. Tills Included 1,250 acres Bcntgrass for seed, 159 acres of other varieties of gras seed and 272 acres of grain. Thir ty acres of grain were rejected. Besides field inspections, seed crops must also pass certain greenhouse and laboratory tesis before being eligible for certifica tion tags. With the several inspec tions and tests, the buyer of certi fied seed is assured of excellent product which lie can depend on to give him good performance. Agency Seeks pedio Engineer SALEM lUI'D Oregon's civil defense agency today is looking for a radio engineer. The CD radio technician re signed last Friday. The agency has "borrowed" the services of a Stato Forestry Department radio man for an hour a day to keep ' up with maintenance uf tlie civil defense communications equip ment. Recruitment Is being handled by the slate civil service agency, and agency director Melvin Cleveland said "recruitment will continue until the position Is filled." The 1963 legislature slashed the state CD agency from an 18-tmm-ber staff to a three-member staff. .
