Phil Schneider, slate game di rector, said the closure was ef fective at 6 a.m. today. He said more than 1.000 spring Chinook were presently in Rock Creek waituig to spawn. Fishermen in the past several weeks have mistreated these fish by molesting, wholesale snagging and dynamiting, Schneider said. He said biologists using Scuba gear inspected live salmon run re-1 cently and found at least live per cent of the fish had from one to three hooks embedded in their bodies, and twice that number had bodies ripped by snagging. One resting pool was dynamited ho said. Schneider said the practice was widespread this summer and much Illegal snagging took place on the Rogue and Santiam riv ers as well. Burley Denies Yankees Choked EUGENE (UPP-Dyrol Burle son, American AAU mile king, denied Wednesday that the Amer ican track and field team "choked up" in its recent meet with Russia. Burleson, who won the '1300 meter run against the Russians in 3:41, said there was publicity nl this nature but "it just wasn't so." The Bears scored seven runs in the seventh keynolcd by Len Cabrielson's homer.
