McKinley, Ralston In Wimbledon WIMBLEDON, England UPI Chuck McKinley is the only seeded player in the 20-man American delegation that starts play Monday for the Wimbledon Rod Laver and Miss Hard lost out twice in the women's final, in 1957 to Althea Gibson of New York and in 1959 to Maria Bu- eno of Brazil. Both McKinley and mens tennis championship, but; Miss Hard are seeded fourth this many of the Yanks are toutingjyear. There are 20 U.S. men and women in the singles cham- Dennis Ralston for the title. Commented Bill Kellogg of La Jolla. Calif., manager of the United States women's team which won the inaugural Federa tion Cup tournament this week: "I think Dennis is the man for i. He's improved considerably, curbed some of his temperament and is itching to go at Wimble don. He'll be tough to beat." Both McKinley and Darlene Hard of Los Angeles, the only Americans seeded for tlie two week Wimbledon championships will he seeking the singles titles which have narrowly eluded them. McKinley was beaten in the 1961 men's final by Australia's 13 pionships. The 27-year-old Miss Hard, ranked No. 1 in the U.S., has said that .w in or lose, this is her last Wimbledon tournament. Ralston, only 20, has had a spotty career. He was not rank ed in the U.S. last year, largely because he was suspended by the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association for his antics in the 1961 Davis Cup matches against Mexico. In 1960, he and Rafael Osuna of Mexico won the Wimbledon doubles crown. Australians are top-seeded in both divisions. Roy Emerson in the men's and Margaret Smith in the women's. NEW YORK lUPIi - Stocky Jose Stable. Cuban New Yorker, used a buz? saw hooking attack to win a unanimous decision over rangier Charley Scott of Philadel phia Saturday night and earn a probable non-title fight with wel terweight champion Emile Grif fith. Stable had the better of the hard - fighting because of his closequartcr hammering in their nationally - televised 10-rounder at Madison Square Garden. There were no knockdowns but each was shaken several times and Stable's right brow was slightly cut as was the inside ol Scott's upper-lip. Scott's right eye was badly bruised in the ter rific 10th round. Each weighed 147 pounds, ex actly the welter division's limit. The three ring officials favored Stable. 22. on a rounds basis as follows: Referee Pete Delia. 8-1-1; Judge Bill Recht. 5-4-1 and Judge Artie Aidala. 6-4. The Unit ed Press International agreed, 6-4. Matchmaker Teddy Brenn said champion Griffith probably would meet Stable in a non-title television light in September, and if Stable won or made tlie fight close, he might get a title bout later.
