(UP1I - The ancient steam locomotive Dixiana Shay with its four 1880-styled pas senger cars puffs from the station Big Trees Narrow Gauge Railroad day this year. Eventually, the road will curve more than 3'i miles from its start ing terminal, then back on itself on a round trip to the top of Bear Mountain. The locomotive is a genuine steam boiler, made in Lima. Ohio, in 1912 for the Smoky Mountain Railroad in Tennessee. It was purchased by the RC&BTNGRR in Virginia where it had served on a now abandoned railroad out of Dixiana. The coaches, built by H. A. Pu laski, Inc., of Irwindale, Calif., were used in the 1830' s on the narrow gauge Nevada-California-Oregon Railroad along the east ern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The rails were made in the iRC&BTNuKR), and it carries excursionists through the redwood same period for the long cone groves of Santa Cruz County, about 70 miles south of San Fran cisco. Its maiden passenger-paying run was made on Palm Sun Carson & Colorado Railway. They hourly on the nation's newest yet oldest railroad. originally came around the Horn on a sailing ship. The limit haul of eiqht sacks of beer cans, pop bottles, tires, and other accessories, was taken by members of the local Isaac Walton League. The state spends taxpayers' money to develop its beautiful parks only to have half witted yahoos desecrate them with such leavings. To protect the public investment in sucn parks as Jason Kimball it is up to each citnen to curtail his own littering habits. THAT'S THE LIMIT ! U 1 Valley Faces Smog Future COKVALLIS (UPI) - In future years, the Willamette Valley could become a "smog land," ac cording to an Oregon State Uni versity pilot study in meteorology. A report by William P. Lowrv said air pollution problems come about when air stagnates and high Jevels of pollutants build up. In the case of the Willamette Valley, air stagnation occurs often during the year. The ring of hills around the valley restricts horizontal ventila tion, and vertical ventilation is slowed by layers of air of differ ent temperatures. Lowry said that rain and winter winds probably will keep the val ley free of pollution during the first half of the year, but the June -December period could bring con ditions favorable for smog. The level of pollutants emitted from industrial plants and auto mobiles is still relatively low, he said, but as population increases, smog will be a serious problem. EXTENDS DEADLINE CAIRO (UPI i The Iraqi gov ernmcnt has extended the dead line on its surrender ultimatum to Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq, the semi-official Middle East News Agency (MENAI said today. Mena, quoting Baghdad Radio, said the deadline next Tuesday had been extended to June 30 "for those rebels who were not informed of the surrender order." ft H'4 11 w k i 5 Is it proper to call for Gordon's by name in English Pubs? to. Z4t us- It's not a matter of being proper. It's unnecessary. For when most Englishmen ask for gin, they expect to get Gordon's. After all, its distinctive dryness and deli cate flavour have been a part of English life for 194 years. Americans, however, have been enjoying Gordon's for a somewhat shorter span of time. So it is wise(and proper)to spe cify Gordon's by name. Your first sip of a Gordon's martini will tell you why it's the big gest selling gin over here as well as in England and the rest of the world. 4 o o 80 nnnniiftT nc ti A nieTiiiiH rnuftflH nevfliu inn vriiTOll KPiSlTX me tn i en nnu abiih on PfiYtf cninnu !Y GIN CO..
