Ohio IUPH Ernie Davis, 2.1. the All-America football fullback at Syracuse who was stricken with leukemia last summer, died at Lakeside Hospi tal here Saturday. Death came at 1 a.m. for the 23-year-old athlete. Davis had been working for a soft drink company out of Cleve land until two days ago and said he felt well. He checked in at the Cleveland Browns' office Thursday morning and told Art Modcll. club presi dent, that he was going into the hospital ' for several days. Drugs administered to Davis had brought about a complete remission in the disease last fall, but there was a flareup early this year. Burial will be in Klmira, N. Y-, Davis" home town since he was a youngster, early next week. Davis probably was the most heralded football player ever to come out of college.
