Friday, May. 17, PAGE 3 B n ger Club By lulled Press lnlrrnalional Whatever happened to all that dissension among the Los Ange les Dodgers? -Manager Walt Alston a everytime he picks up a newspa per he reads about dissension on his ball club. He probably isn't doing much reading lately or he would have noticed a conspicuous absence of such stones. Eight victories in 11 games will do it all the time and that's been the Dodgers' pace since Slay 5 when they began climbing from seventh place. They're second now and have apparent designs of moving even higher. Southpaw Johnny Podres scored his first victory in more than three weeks Thursday night when he went the distance for the first time since April 24 in beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0. Podres scattered seven hits, struck out five and walked only one as he took only an hour and 50 minutes to record his second victory of the season. Loser Don Schwall also gave up seven hits, including two in the ninth inning that did him in. Gilliam Scores Winner .Jim Gilliam opened the ninth with a single, moved up on a sacrifice and went to third on an infield out. Willie Mays and Willie McCov ey each connected for his sixth homer of the season w ith one on in the Giants' victory over the Mels. Southpaw Billy O'Dell ran his record to 5-0 although Gay lord Perry had to rescue him when the Mets rallied for four runs in the sixth. Shuts Out Reds Larry Jackson whitewashed the Reds on six hits to register his fifth victory in nine decisions for the Cubs. Loser Jim O Toole, now 6-3, allowed only four hits in the seven innings he worked with Ernie Banks singling home tlve run that was enough to beat him in the seventh. Eddie Mathews' three-run horn er off Ray Washburn highlighted a four-run first inning rally that assured the Braves their victory over the Cardinals. Lefty Denny Lema5ter held the Cards score less until the ninth when he was nicked for homers by Stan Mu sial and Gene-Oliver. The Phillies' victory over the Colts was their 21st in 23 games since Houston entered the circuit. A two-run homer by Don Deme ter that helped hand Dick Droit his first defeat. Ruy Culp limit ed Houston to five hits in six in nings and gained his fourth vic tory although Jack Baldschun had to halt a two-run rally in the seventh. - Major League Results . The Pelicans hod rallied to tie the game at 2-2 and Bath scored the winner on a double steal with John Gray. Bath stole home when the throw went to second trying to get Gray.
