Members of Klamath Commu nity Orchestra, under the direc tion of Normand Poulshock, this week began intensive practice ses sions in preparation for a bene fit Music Festival at Mills School Auditorium May 14. Poulshock is director of string music in Klam ath Kails elementary schools. Appearing on the same p r o gram will be other community musicians in soloist and group oles. They include Barbara Shields, pianist; Mary Van Vac lor, piano; Dr. Arthur Compton classical guitarist, as soloists, and Barbara Poulshock, LaMar Jen sen and Normand Poulshock in an instrumental trio. Mrs. Poulshock! will also appear as a vocalist. Tickets are on sale at Klamath Falls music stores, and can be purchased from representatives of Klamath Falls civic organizations which are acting as sponsors of I the event. The benefit performance is be ing arranged to raise funds to initiate a Klamath Community Symphony, which will be headed by Poulshock. Community musi cians will be invited to take part in the symphony by Poulshock when organization is undertaken later this year. Funds will be used to buy music and special equip ment needed to start and main tain the proposed symphony group. The Klamath Community Or chestra group originally was tarted under the auspices of the American Association of Univer sity Women, with Helen O'Neill instigating the project as an In strumental study group. Later, under Poulshock's direction, oth er nieces w-ere aoaea 10 me group, and it was finally decided that the community possesses enough music talent to warrant a symphony group. Sponsors of the Music Festival include the AAUW, ' Library Club, Lions Culb, downtown and Linkville Kiwanis, Rotary Club Sot-optimists, Quota Club and Business and Professional Worn en.
