quake: for the angel of the Lord descended

and Salome, had brought sweet spices, that
they might come and anoint him.

shall roll us away the stone from the door of
the sepulchre?"
And when they looked, they saw that the
stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
And entering into the sepulchre, they saw
a young man sitting on the right side, clothed
in a long white garment; and they were af-'
frighted.
And he said unto them, "Be not affright
ed: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was
crucified; he is risen; he is not here; behold
the place where they laid him.
"But go your way, tell his disciples and
Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee:
Yes,
I am the resurrection, and the life; he that
bclieveth in me, though he were dead, yet
shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and bclieveth in me

Once again this Easter morning the Chris
tian world proclaims with solemn joy the af
firmation of its belief in the risen Christ.
The great stone which sealed mankind's
tomb has been rolled back and has become
.not a barrier, but a door to eternal life for
those who believe in the stunning reality of
the resurrection.
No longer is life a few brief moments
between nothingness and nothingness. The
spark in man which calls out with all its being
for fuel against eternal night has not been de

Now upon the first day of the week, very

sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had

body of the Lord Jesus,
And it came to pass, as they were much
perplexed there about, behold, two men stood
by them in shining garments.
And as they were afraid and bowed down
their faces to the earth, they said unto them.
"Why seek ye the living among the dead??
"He is not here, but is risen: remember
how he spake unto you when he was yet in
Galilee,
"Saying. "The Son of Man must be deliv
ered into the hands of sinful men, and be
crucified and the third day rise again'."
And they remembered his words.
And returned from the sepulchre, and
told all these things unto the eleven, and all
the rest.

But Mary stood without at the sepulchre
weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down
and looked into the sepulchre.
And seeth two angels in white silting, the
one at the head, and the other at the feet,
where the body of Jesus had lain.
And they say unto her, "Woman, why
wecpest thou?" She saith unto them. "Be
cause they have taken away my Lord, and I
know not where they have laid him."
And when she had thus said, she turned
herself back and saw Jesus standing, and knew
not that it was Jesus.
Jesus saith unto her, "Woman, why weep
esl thou? Whom seeke9t thou," She, supposing
him to be the gardener, saith unto him, "Sir,
if thou have borne him hence, tell me where
thou has laid him, and I will take him away."
Jesus saith unto her, "Mary." She turned
herself and saith unto Him, "Rabboni," which
is to say, Master.
Jesus saith unto her, "Touch me not: for
I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go
to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend
unto my Father and your Father; and to my
God, and your God."
Mary Magdalene came and told the dis
ciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he
had spoken these things unto her.
We Do Believe
nied. Divinity, which has walked the earth
as man, has shown the way through darkness
to eternal light.
The very world around us joins in pro
claiming a miracle of rebirth after the bare
ness of the winter season. The message of new
born life is all-insistent and will not be de
nied. The great facts of the birth of a saviour
and of His triumph over death have now been
told again. In the very retelling, in the reliving
of the Christian experience for nearly 2,000
years, there is an implicit affirmation of be
lief in immortality.
On this Easter morning, each Christian,
in his own church, in his own way, deep in his
being, can say: "Yes, I do believe."

a deeper compassion to fill those
needs, for a planting of the seeds
of concern for all humanity in
our hearts, for a tapping of the

Editorial Association one of his
prize pictures when they called
on him in his office for a brief
ing. It was a snapshot of one of
his sons standing in front of the
While House. He said it had been
taken by his . sister-in-law, First
Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
The picture was framed so as
to show what she had written on
the back. It was: "Bobby in front
of his future home."
It was a real love feast when
long-time United Mine Workers
President John L. Lewis retired
as head of the National Coal Pol
icy Conference and was honored
by his old enemies, the coal
operators. As a token of their af
fection they presented him' w ith
an oil portrait which showed what
Lewis looked like in his prime
battling days.
When the painting was unveiled
by George M. Love, head of Con
solidated Coal Company, Lewis
' now 83, with bright blue eyes
shining under white hair and
bushy eyebrows instead of gray
asked sardonically, "Do I look
that way? I'd hate on a dark
night and in a close place to
meet a man of that character."
Then at the end of his remarks
on coal mining, fuel oil, unem
ployment and Shakespeare, Lewis
turned to the portrait, thanked
the donors and said, "I'm going
to have a hard time studying all
the facets of that man's charac

years of continuous service in
the upper house of Congress, Vice
President Lyndon Johnson told an
inside story which illustrates per
fectly how quietly and efficiently
the Virginia apple grower runs
his famous Old Dominion political
machine.
It was during 1054 debate on a
tax bill amendment which Senate '
Marjority Leader Johnson was
supporting and Byrd was against.
The Virginian came up to the
Texan's desk and asked, "Lyn
don, do I have the votes to defeat
your amendment?"
Johnson "Yes, by three or four
votes."
As debate was coming to an
end, Byrd again approached
Johnson, asked the same ques
tion and got the same answer.
"If you're sure," said Byrd,
"I won't denounce it."
The amendment lost by four
votes.
President Kennedy's brother-in-law,
Stephen E. Smith, is expect
ed to get some help in plaster
ing up the biggest cracks in the
Democratic party for the 1964
presidential race.
Among those under considera
tion is Ben Smith, former sena
tor from Massachusetts, who was
appointed to Kennedy's seat w hen
the latter gained the White House
in 1960. The President's brother,
Ted, won the same seat by elec
tion last fall.
Before the party patch-tips are
achieved, Ben Smith may be
moved to repeat a gag he uttered
last sp' ing at the Massachusetts
convention which endorsed young
Ted (or senator.

uling problems of Klamath Un
ion High School.
I am certain none of us are
so naive as to believe that all sit
uations in this complex civiliza
tion in which we live can be
ideal.
As a parent of a high school
student, I, naturally, would hope
that my child could attend schbol
under ideal conditions, but since
this is not possible due to many
factors, as mature, intelligent
adults, we should be able to ac
cept gracefully a somewhat less
than ideal solution to the exist
ing problems.
Is there one of us who can say
we have spent even the slightest
percentage of the time which has
been spent by our administrators
and school board members in an
overall study of the scheduling
problem?

ering which has grown out of the
decision to operate on a split
schedule during the coming school

year is a direct insult to the ad
ministrators and facuity to whom
we have committed the education
of our children. Do we presume
to tell an engineer how to build
a bridge or a superhighway;
an electronics engineer how to
design and build a computer; a
jet pilot how to fly his plane?
We do not for the simple reason
that most of us have not been
schooled in these fields. Why,
then, are many suddenly so pre
sumptuous as to attempt to tell
school administrators, well
trained in their area, how to
function. We have placed these
individuals in the positions they
now hold because we felt them
qualified for the job and able,
through knowledge and cxori
ence, to cope with all situations
arising within their jurisdiction.
Why, then, when the going gets
a bit rough, .do we oppose their
decisions?
In my humble opinion I feel
we should present a united front
and give our wholehearted sup
port to Mr. Hunsaker, Mr. Mc
Kinny and the school board mem
bers in whatever they agree is
the most workable, feasible plan
for operating KUHS during the
next school year.
