Cutting Horse Contest Planned For Four-Day July Celebration At Alturas ALTURAS - The boom Inun of the Northwest will be Alturas from Julv 4-7. The world series .11 cutting horse contests, pa rades, barbecues, dances, horse show. Poquito Vaqueros rodeo regatta, and horse sale are all in store for the tour-day array of festivities. The Modoc Chamber of Com merce announced this week that the four-day spectacular will he the biggest ever to hit Northern California, with an expected at tendance of thousands each day to witness the dawn until dawn events. A rodeo, parade, cutting horse con test, and horse show are only a few of the events planned by the Modoc Chamber of Commerce and the Model Quarter Horse Association. Cosmetic Sale To Aid Lakeview Baton Group LAKEVIEW - A fund-raising! project for the Strutting Honkers. Lakeview twirlers group, has been announced as an open house at the armory on April 18 from 2:30 to 4 p.m., with a cosmetics display by a nationally known firm. There will be a demonstration of complete makeup for girls and women and a film strip on eye makeup. A percentage of returns from the sale of the cosmetics w ill be made to the girls for the purchase of uniforms. The Strutting Honkers, trained tisociation and a recognized judge of the NCHA. A pancake breakfast at Hk- park in Alturas will start the events rolling on the Fourth of Julv. followed bv the largest pa rade ever to tour the streets of a Northern California town Along with the floats presented by the commercial, civic, and private groups vying for the trophies ami prizes, there will be horse groups representing riding clubs through out the northern area. The Clydes dale Hitch of the Budweiser breweries is one ot the early en tries along with the Sixth Army Band, the Alameda Naval Air Station Band, and the Marine Corps Band from the 13th district. The theme of tlte parade, in keep ing with the traditional fourth. will be the (loddcss of Liberty. A noon barbecue and the Po quito Vaqueros: rodeo at the Mod el Quarter show grounds will fol low the parade. The Poquito Va queros will bring forth the rough and tough cowboys from 6 to lti and feature steer riding, bare back colt riding, goat tying and all "little britches" rodeo events. A pageant depicting the history of the last frontier of the west will be shown at the Model Quar ter Horse grounds in the evening. Here in the original setting will be seen the blood curdling and heroic stories of the men who settled Modoc County and North ern California. On July 5 the cutting horse con test and a fried chicken lunch will be held at the show grounds. A cowboy street dance in Alturas will top the day. The Model Quarter Horse show will open to only registered hors es in the morning and I lie regat ta in the alternoon The water ski events and Kl Toro sail boat races will be held at lorris Lake, two miles east of Alturas. A dinner dance at the VKW Hall in Alturas will be held that evening. Thev are divided into several groups and the older girls appear on ex hibition at various affairs. At the St. Patrick's Day parade in Reno, they placed fifth in their divi sion. They have won seven tro phies within the past year, and plan to take part in a Redding Calif., parade on May 25. There is no admission charge to the open house program and a general invitation is being is sued to the public.
