When your partner opens one no-trump, you should have little or no interest in playing a minor suit game contract. It takes 11 tricks to make game in a minor and only nine to make game in no-trump. Thus, in expert practice, you only go from no-trump to a min-; or when you have a bad hand and don't want to try for even one no trump, or such a good hand that you want to investigate slam possibilities. North has a hand with which he wants to be in game alter; his Dartner's no trump opening. He only has seven high card Mints, but his six card suit nean- ed by ace-king-ton looks like six J probable tricks lor His partner. There is no better way to getjl to game than by bidding it and! North jumps right to tnree no- trump. West opens the deuce of spades I and East plays the queen, bouthj should win with the ace and count I his tricks. He sees eight sure tricks. He sees eight sure tricks i and each of three suits offer b, possible ninth. His best technique is to cash his queen of clubs, enter dum my with a second club, and try the diamond finesse. It happens to work, so Smith's worries are over. He can afford to try for en extra trick and the way is to I run the clubs and see what hap pens. If East and West discard properly South should settle for his game. If they get careless he may find a way to get an over-trick.
