The $100, 000 investment features an all-purpose fellowship hall connected to the sanctuary by a covered breezeway and a large patio. A new building had been needed since 1940 when the First Baptift Church and the Congregational Church merged to form the Federated Church. parish. The convent is the only one of its kind in the diocese. The residence, north of the par ish hall, was purchased by Jere miah P. Kgan of Plush and pre sented to the diocese to be used as a home for nuns. Parishioners do nated time and money to ren ovate the old building. They cleaned, painted, and did the necessary carpentry and electri cal work, which amounted to ap proximately W.000 in repairs and restoration. The original invest ment in the property was $18,000. The convent has three bed- 1 ooms, two baths, work room, din ing room, chapel, reception room, and basement with utilities and garage. Rev. Money for the project was obtained by a loan from the Oregon District Assemblies of God. The church property has an in volved history. It was first deed ed to the Bculah Methodist Episco pal Church by Mr. and .Mrs. Jo seph Nichols for $1 on Sept. .1. 1902. This is the first record nf the church at Bonanza, but many old-lime residents say the history of the present church goes back farther than 1900. After some years tlie work in Bonanza was abandoned by the Methodists. In 19-17 the property was purchased bv the Nazarene Church, which had been function ing in the community for several years, but the Nazarenes also abandoned their work in 1935. The present Community Church was organized around 1954 by Hev. Bill Alsup. an Assembly of God minister; and Ihe present congregation completed purchase of the property, owned by Ihe Nazarenes. in 19H2. The Oregon District Assemblies of God loaned the local church the money for the purchase and granted $511(1 outright. This loan has since been repaid. In nrder to prevent members nf the community from having to buy this property again, as it has exchanged hands numerous times. the deed granted tn Bonanza Cnm munity Church carries a provi sion that should-the Assemblies of God ever cease their interest in the work in Bonanza, the prnp- erly will revert, without charge, to the community. However, the community must use the properly for church purposes in accord with the basic principles of evan- lical Christianity. 1 K I day at First Baptist Church. : Delegates from alvoul I7 Ore. jgon ciiunhc. were a-tendinc. lee - mg were scheduled IhrniuK Thii: i.-tv I!irL- Care . $50 to S 1 23 10 developed cr TU 4-3161 of Klcmoth FoM
