I .Dimpled Wife Brings ! Contentment, Fortune HERALD A.VD NEWS. Klamath Falls. Ore. A ' By AW L.WPKRS Dear Ann Landers: You recent ly said In your column you have never heard of dimples being pro duced surgically and that you got ynurs (or birthday pres- I ent. Well. yours t mav have been I a gilt but some I women have lo I pay for theirs. The Orientals consider the dim ple a symbol of good luck. The poets of ancient China frequently associated this anatomical endow ment with a pretty and happy (ace. The dimpled wife, they be lieved, brought contentment and good fortune to the family. Many Malayan Chinese women insist that plastic surgeons create dimples in their faces. It has been done w ith considerable success. I volunteer this information be cause I know you want to give vour readers correct advice. SINGAPORE Dear Singapore: Thank vou for the fine letter. I found the Infor- Illation fascinating. Dimples are ;rather nice to receive as a gift -hut I certainly wouldn't go out ami buy 'em. Pear Ann lenders: The whin 'jng widow who wrote to you made me sick. She sits there with money in the bank, fat insurance policies, a paid-for home, solici tous relatives, and all she' has to complain about is loneliness. It's the divorcee not the w idow who knows what real heartache is. How would she like my rat line? I work at a newspaper from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. After work I return to my dreary, shab bily furnished apartment to scrub, cook. wash. ion. and mend clothes. I attend school conferenc es, listen to the children's prob lems, discipline, pray for and wor ry about three youngsters who are growing up without a father. Occasionally 1 accept a date thinking "this one will be differ ent." But it never is. 1 always end up feeling degraded because most men think a divorcee will say yes lo anytning as payment for a dinner or some dull conver sat ion. So please tell the widow who signed herself "Alone'' that di vorcees are alone, loo. but that they have a myriad of added prob lems which widows don't have. -TREADMILL Dear Treadmill: Your Irtter has senile merit, but not every widow ban a fat insurance policy, money In the bank, and a paid-for home And not every divorcee is liv ing in a shabby apartment. Some times i(' the alimony-busted hus bands who wind up In a rented room with naked light bulbs One thing is certain, however the widow didn't have a choice Dear Ann Landers: My prob lem is an older man. I'm 16 and Brad is 29. His parents think I'm 20 and my parents think he is 22 He's madly in love w ith me. but I m not in love with him. The trou ble is I don't have the heart to break up with him. Brad knows how I feel but he doesn't care. He savs love will come later. He has spent over $200 on me in the last two months, and his parents have bought me gifts, too. They think I'm the smartest and loveliest girl he has ever gone w ith. He wants to mar ry me next year when I graduate tiom high school. Please don't think Brad is goins with me for sex. I am very moral Tell me what to do MISS NEW ARK Dear .Miss Newark: People of ten ask me how I spot phonv lellers. Well, here is how 1 spot ted yours. No parent can possibly think a 211-year-old who is still In high school is "the smartest girl he ever went with." Now why don't you go do your homework? Are you tempted to smoke be' cause the crowd does? If so. send for Ann Landers' booklet. "Teen age Smoking." enclosing with your request io cents in coin and a long, self-addressed, stamped en velope. Ann Landers will be glad to help you w ith your problems. Send them to Iter in care of this news paper enclosing a slamped. elf-addressed envelope. 3 Veteran Tax Exemption Date Set Disabled war veterans and wid ows of veterans must apply for their annual slate property lax exemptions by April I. the Department of Veterans' Affairs reported today. By the lime the sale has been in progress for a week, the call- , are needed or if an excess of candy should lie returned to the oflice for distribution to another Camp Fire group. The biggest job of the sale is placed on group leaders. Each is responsible for instructing her group on the rules of the sale; securing permission slips from (he parents of girls who sell; and keeping records ofirls with candy and the amount each has sold. When the sale ends, the leader must make a full report to the council office and her ac count must balance. Through the excellent assist ance of the Camp Fire office per sonnel the sale runs smoothly. and the oflice reports there is sel-j dom an unbalanced account. The sale of Miss Saylor's choc olate mints is a once - a - year project to help supplement the general fund and expand facilities at Camp Esther Applegale.
