He was the fust winner of the Down Beat New Star Award in the vibraphone category. Though the vibraphone is his chief instrument, Tjader Is also an accomplished tap dancer. He first came to national prominence1 as a member of the famous Dave Brubcck Trio and later toured with the George Shear ing Quintet.
