"It Is abundantly clear thai there is no such thing as an Amer ican Communist," Ranstad writes. "Communists have no nationality, and Communists in the U n 1 1 e d States feel they owe no loyalty to its government. . . . The Com munist Party, U.S.A. is not a po- litical party. It it part and parcel of the international Commu nist apparatus, wrapped in the flag of the United States and hid ing behind its constitution for the purpose of destroying it. Just as phoney, according to the article, "A Lesson Many Peo- pl Never Learn," is the claim that domestic reds should be tol erated because their efforts to overthrow the government cannot succeed. "Such arguments ignore the in divisibility of the Communist men- ace. There are not two Commu nist threats, one domestic and harmless and the other foreign and formidable. There is but one threat, an international enemy with a dangerous foothold inside our gates." Those who would have us stop attacking communism ana; expos ing Communists in order to con centrate solely on .selling the Air Seeding Bids Asked The Bureau of Land Manage ment in Portland will open bids , at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 for aerial seed ing by helicopter of 5,500 acres of government-owned forest land near Burns, Ore., the Department of the ulterior announced today The forest tree and range grass seeding project requested will bcl used as part of the bureau s program for rehabilitation of fire damaged lands in Grant, Harney and Baker counties. BLM is also inviting bids to furnish all necessary equipment, tools, supplies and materials, transportation, labor and supervi sion for the rehabilitation of twoi parcels of public domain land by scarification, snag falling, brush clearing and burning an ap proximate total of 58 acres, lo cated in Placer County, Calif., about 24 miles northeast of Au burn. Bids on this invitation will be opened at 2 p.m. Nov - Details on the aerial seeding project in Oregon and the Cali fornia forest rehabilitation project are available to prospective bid- dev's at the Bureau of Land Man agement, Room 730, 1002 N. E Holladay Street (P.O. Box 386U, Portland 8, Ore. of fair and open competition, Ran stad writes. WASHINGTON (API - Forest fire damage caused by careless ness and disregard of safety rules by some threatens the future hunt ing opportunities of all sportsmen, a forest industry official said to day. James C. McClellan, chief for ester of American Forest Prod ucts Industries, Inc., said the West has been plagued by an outbreak . of. forest fires in recent weeks. Oregon forests have Been par ticularly hard-hit, McClellan said noting that on a recent weekend 76 untended campfires were re ported in one part of Central Oregon. McClellan said some 54 million acres of commercial timberland owned by . lumbering and wood processing companies have been opened to hunters. "Thoughtless hunters can can cel out all the good work done bv the millions of citizens who have worked without pay to educate the public in forest conservation un der the Keep America Green pro gram," McClellan said in a statement. Halt Asked To Logging CORVALLIS (APi-The Oregon Cascades Conservation Council is asking a halt to logging in parts of the Cascade Range. The council was formed last year to try to protect scenic areas of the Cascades. . A letter to President Kenncdv said that some of the lands need ins protection were "the buffer areas leading to the high country But many of these areas are being put right now before studies are completed." . The council deplored logging on Whitewater Creek, a quarter-mile from the Mt. Jefferson Primitive Area, and in Bear Valley off the Mctolius River. The .counril also asked the Pre ident to keep logcers and road? out of specified areas on the east and west side of the Mt. Hood Wild Area and around the Mt.
