March , 1961 Pag 7 Herald & News Klamath Falls KUHS Choir Concert Set For Thursday The Klamath Union High School a cappella choir, string orchestra and Madrigal Singers will present a public concert Thursday, March 9, beginning at 8 p.m. in Mills School Auditorium. The 70-minute concert will fea ture numbers that the groups will present for the Music Education" Association National Convention (Northwest Division) during the spring vacation March 15 through 18 at Spokane. The full choir of 85 voices will sing and the full string orchestra of 28 pieces will perform. Only 60 choir members and 22 string orchestra members will make the) Spokane trip, however. The Madrigal Singers are 20 se lected voices from the choir. The feature number will be' Franz Schubert's "Mass in G" by! the choir with orchestral accom paniment. tSchubert was 18 when he composed the work. j The work has gained recogni-! tion In this country mainly since its famous presentation by the Robert Shaw Chorale and Orches- J tra. The mass will be sung entire-1 ly in Latin. The remainder of the program will be as follows: . "Quest for God" by Allen, choir and orchestra; "Agnus Dei" by Morley and "Advent Motet" by Schreck, choir ' and antiphonal choir; "Deo Gracias" by Britten and "Hospodi Pomilui" by Von Lvov, choir; "My Heart Doth Beg" by DiLasso; "The Silver Swan" by Gibbons, "In These De lightful Pleasant Groves" by Pnr cell, "0 Gentle Moon" by Ste phen, "Matona, Lovely Maiden" by DiLasso and "Now Is the Month of Maying" by Morley, the Madrigal Singers; "G Minor Fugue" by Bach, "Three Diver timento Movements" by Mozart and "Norwegian Dance" by Grieg, the string orchestra. General admission is "50 cents and tickets are available from any choir and orchestra member. They may also be obtained by calling KUHS, TU 2-4446. M. Dale Hallack, director of vo cal music in city schools and con cert director, said just 815 tickets will be sold, since Mills Auditori um will hold no more. The delegates attended three meetings of the General As sembly in MacArthur Court, and worked on committees, commis sions, and councils during their three-day stay in Eugene all ac cording to the functions of the United Nations in New York city. However not all was work. One of the many highlights of the con ference was the Fourteenth An nual International Relations Ban quet staged at 7 p.m.. Friday in the Student Union Building on' the UO campus. Those delegates from Klamath Union who were asked to repre sent the United Arab Republic were Jack Riley, Charlton Currin, Rod Sparlin. Charlotte Dickinson, Myrna Frewing. Dave Sibbet, Rich Mollison, Martha Pierson, Livio Valdemarin, Marilyn Thome and Ginger Learning. Student Council representatives assembled after school last Thurs day to elect a new rally queen and to appropriate money to send the school's rally squad, pep band, and Pelican Service Club to the State Tournament March 14 through 18 at the University of Oregon gym.
