Dial A Book The library of the Del(t Insti tute of Technology of the Nether lands has introduced an innova tion that is expected to ease the librarian's lot, and that of the borrower as well. It is based on the dial system of the telephone. When the borrower has consulted the catalogue and made his selec- tion. he dials a seven-digit num-j ber with which the book is iden tified. Immediately, lights flash on in the stacks, directing the attend ant to the aisle, bookcase and shelf, and finally to the place ofj the requested book on that shelf. All he has to do is to place the work on the conveyor belt that lands in the lending room. Thus far. the Delft library is' the world's first to be soi equipped. But expect the system to spread; it is a simple way of saving time and money two things all libraries are eternally short of. On Feb. 27 Ewauna Club is to have its final speech contest.- There will be four judges pres ent from the community. Their job is to select Ihe winner and alternate speakers Irom the con testants.
