VeecI District Seeking To Obtain Federal Aid WEED During regular board! meeting of Ihe weed Sanitary Dis: trict Tuesday, Feb. 14, William Krum, the president, was author ized to sign an application for a Federal Loan grant to be submit ted to the Water Pollution Board at Santa Rosa. II the application is granted the government will furnish 30 per cent of the plant construction costs providing the district has passed the bond is sue and has 70 per cent of the costs available. The grant de pends upon the amount allowed each state by the federal government. Krum stated that the money provided by the federal grant is not required to be, repaid by the district. Schilling will show colored slide photographs of Southern Pacific Company facilities taken from the air, during a meeting of Mount Shasta Business and Pro fessional Women"s Club Monday evening in the Ski Bowl Coffee Shop. The photographer was Mrs. Schilling's son, Ray Miller. Andreazza. Joe Belcastro, Thom as Parkinson and Frank Groppi. A special election for residents of the district to authorize general obligation bonds amounting to $160,000 is scheduled for March 7. Scouts from Troop 92 sponsored by Gazelle Parents Club conduct ed the opening cremony. The Rev. H. L. Engdahl of Mount Shasta! gained four per cent last year. Opening exercises were exempli fied by grange officers. The lecturer s program was opened with a prayer by chap lain, Opal Waresback. Foulkc were introduced to the group. He was one of the first 13 Eagle Scouts to attain that rank in San Francisco. It was announced that the fol lowing units set and attained membership goals for 1960: Cub Pack 36, Yreka; Pack 51,, Montague; Pack 52, Happy Camp; Pack 54. Fort Jones; Pack 55. Thanked were Lawrence Hast ings for 10 years of scouting, Dom Favero, for' outstanding service in training. M. E. Ellison for an excellent record, and Ralph Richards, for earning the scout crs' key. The key was presented by McDougall. 4-H NEWS BIG SPRINGS ; The Grenada and Gazelle 4-H Clubs were guests of the Bigl Springs 4-H Club at a valentine party held in the community hall at Big Springs. A resolution in memoriam was adopted for former board mem ber Archie Kindig of Fort Jones, who died recently. In other action, the board authorized six - week summer school sessions, agreed to sub mit an application for approval of National Defense Education Act guidance program, set the start of the school year at Sept. 5, included in board policy a stip ulation that any student must be eligible to receive a diploma be fore he may participate in gradu ation exercises.
