The Man Who Rode the Thun der, by William H. Rankcn. This book is about the Marine Lt. Col. William Ranken who in July, 1959, was forced to bail out of a plane at 50,000 feet. After dropping seven miles in a free fall he plunged into the grip of a violent storm. For over a half hour, Colonel Ranken was an air borne captive of the storm. This is his story of that perilous time. He also tells about his life as a Ma rine In World War II. All of his life seemed to shape him into the person who was able to go through this ordeal. This is an in teresting biography that should be very popular with men. My Story, by Zsa Zsa Gabor. An autobiography of the famous movie star. The actual writing of the book was done by Gerald Frank who wrote Lillian Roths story of her life, "I'll Cry To morrow," and Diana Barry more s. "Too Much, Too Soon." We have had many historical novels in recent years. This is another one, and it deals with the life of Pocahontas. We have all known about her from childhood, but we have known just the bare facts. This annual rate of road construction would complete the national forest main line road system in about 30 years at an intensity M lour miles per section or one mile per 150 acres," summarized Fed- kiw. He charged that the present system" of national forest road financing fails to make adequate positive provision in the rate and direction of road development lor maximum utilization. It essential ly precludes proper management of young growth. It leads to inef ficient utilization of accumulated salvage and mortality losses and delayed conversion of the least productive timber capital to more efficient public investment. Fedkiw said that there are eiah! million acres of old growth tim ber, 66 per cent of it in public ownersnip ana zu per cent in large industrial holdings. Cumu lative losses in this timber type during the next 40 years will be enormous not less than 75 billion board feet. This Is enough to keep tne industrial capacity of the re gion fully supplied for six to eight years. In an effort to fill the many predicated vacancies, the Air Force Air Weather Service is conducting an education and com missioning program which offers almost unlimited opportunity for qualified individuals.
