Howlett said Mrs. Garrett quar reled with her husband, screamed in the front yard, and then fled back inside when he called an ambulance for her. After she re fused to get in the ambulance, he left to spend the night at a mo tel, Howlett said. He added that Mrs. Garrett later complained to police that her husband had left home, and wanted them to do something about it. She also talked a half hour by telephone to her brother in Houston, Texas, he said.. An hour later neighbors heard her shouting for help, and saw her house in flames. Neighbors rescued her and one child. Her husband, her brother Alvin Jr., and her father, Alvin M. Owsley, retired Dallas, Texas, attorney, were in the state circuit court room with her.
