The amount of insect damage and disease spread by the insects Ihe coming season is much reduced It is true that these insects may migrate in trom natural hosts and oilier areas but the build up and damage in a well sprayed garden or orchard is much less when dor mant spraying is done. Two materials arc used common ly in dormant spraying. One is lime-sulfur solution which is a brownish colored liquid. The oth er material commonly used is dor mant oil. These are specially de signed spray oils, and are not merelv a common oil which you may pick up Irom automotive or industrial source. Dormant oil is designed to spray on plants at this season of the year. The most common form of dor mant spraying is a combination of dormant oil and lime-sulfur solu tion in water. Both of these are diluted according to the tables giv en on the label. Read the labels thoroughly and follow directions closely. Insect eggs are lucked in the crevices ol the bark under the sca'es of the buds and in liny cracks in Ihe surface of the limbs and twigs. Spray thoroughly to Ihe point of riinotf. Fruit trees, roses, and all decidu ous shrubs should be sprayed at; litis lime with dormant oil and hme-sullur to kill both overwinter ing spores ot diseases and the eggs ol overwintering insects and mites.
