Relax. The nation's statisticians and economists have taken out their charts, looked at their nialhem.it ical formulas, consulted with the Census Bureau, and come up with this cheering news: So many young couples will he getting married and having ha bies in the MWO's that the nation's factories, stoics, beauty parlors and filling stations, auto, home, vacuum cleaner and loy salesmen doctors, lawyers and almost ev eryone else will be busy just keep ing up with the business. Some 4.000 assorted economists and statisticians met here recent ly to try out some o( their ideas and predictions on each other. These are not the views of all 4.000. Frankly no two men seen agree precisely on anything. Rath er this is sort of consensus of representative economists, reached NOW by men who have been studying what's ahead. Specifically by 1070: The U.S. will have a population of between 203 million and 220 million. Employment will be up around 111 million to 02 million. Unenv ployment will be about 3.400.000 The average work week will be only 37 hours. The Cross National Product the total production of goods and services will be up about 50 per cent to $7:3 billion. New homes will be built at an average rate of one and a third million a year all during the I'MiO's, compared with only a mi: lion predicted for lo. Or in dollars, new homes wi l,e built at the rate of almost $2.i billion a year, compared with SIB billion expected for l!ii0. The av crage home will be a little big gcr. and more expensive. There'll sti'l he recessions in the 60 s around every four years or so. But they'll he mild, more i mm i every year. The average will hit dote to I. .100.000 a year in the first half of. the 'fifl's and around 1,500,000 a year between 1065 and 1070. There will be a growing short age of industrial managers. White collar workers will gradually greatly outnumber blue collar men. The trend will be for fewer peo ple to be thrown out of work dur ing recessions. Farm income will continue to move downward. The migration from the farms to the cities will continue. The rate of migration will increase in the Ws. There will he a major shift of workers out of manufacturing and mining into the services and professions. Foreign competition will contin ue to grow as some key compet- ng countries continue to modern ze their factories at a faster rate than American companies. New products will be developed during the '60 s at an even faster rale than in the decade just past. The reason: a whopping increase in industrial research in the next 10 years. 1970 NOW 1970 NOW POPULATION 203-220 MILLION UNEMPLOYMENT 3,400,000 1970 NOW EMPLOYMENT 81,000,000 ll I Mill, 1970 NOW WORK WEEK 37 HRS. 1970 CCS . tl : LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE Examination for Certified Public Ac countants of Ore f on will be held in Portland from 1 .:si PM Wednesday, May 18 through Friday, May 20, lOHO Application! must be filed with the Secretary on or before April 8. lflfiO. Creeping inflation will continue Even if successive administrations attempt more and more controls, these won't slop it. Social security will continue to expand. So will company pension plans also unemployment com pensation programs. A growing surplus of unskilled labor looms for the '60 s. There will he more labor unrest and la bor turnover due in part to the flooding of younger people into the labor market as a result of the baby boom that started two dec ades ago.
