Newspaper Page TextHERALD AND NEWS, Klamath Falls, Ore. Friday. Feh. 10. lOfiO PAGE 1 A 4-H NEWS JUNIOR BRONCS The February meeting of the Junior Broncs was held at the home of Barbara Evans. As Secretary Sandra Woodard read roll call, Mrs. Woodard gave out the pins that the members had earned for a certain number of years in 4-H. Evelyn Hooper read her report on "The Gaits of Horses." John Espinosa was introduced as a new member. The members again discussed the new shirts. Mr. Woodard announced that Mrs. Vian is going to start riding lessons at 50 cents a week for any one in the club who would like to take them. The club discussed having a long ride along with a breakfast after the weather becomes good. A discussion of the fair and how to improve horsemanship was next. It was suggested that a set of rules be made up for the 4-H members concerning the fair. The meeting was then adjourned after which refreshments were en joyed by all. The next meeting will be March 10 at the clubhouse. Donna Williams, News Reporter. HENI.EY BEEF CLUB Through the course of the meet ing we discussed our money-mak ing project for the year. It is going to be a combination pie - social, dance, and card party. Lila Rittec is going to handle the publicity Linda Taylor and Carolyn Brower are going to make the posters. In the morning the scale was taken around. The following are the weights of the calves: Cheryl West, 715; Linda L a n phear, 4iX); Ross Lanphear, 495; Robert Ritter, 640; Don Breithaupt, S60; Steve Cheyne, 690; Linda Tay lor, 655. Karen Dixon, 640; Phillip Dixon, BUS; Steve Dixon, 380; Bob Brow er, 635 and 625; Carolyn Brower, 655; Bill Taylor, 760 and 660. Due to breakage of the scales, Juanna Goode's and N'eal Buchan an's calves could not be weighed. At this meeting we also filled out our record books and got them up to date. Members present at this meet ing were Neal Buchanan, Juanna Coode, Bob Blower, Linda Lan phear, Carolyn Brower, Ross Lan phear, Lila Ritter, Karen Dixon. Robert Ritter, Linda Taylor, Phil lip Dixon and Steve Dixon. . After the meeting Mrs. Dixon served refreshments. This meeting was held at the home of Karen, Phillip and Steve Dixon. The next meeting will be held at the home of Cheryl West at 1:30 p.m. on March 13. Lila Ritter, .... . News Reporter. KF Waitress Hurt In Fall Hulda Gillette, a waitress, fell while climbing stairs at the Peli can Cafe Wednesday evening and was injured by glass from a bot tle which shattered in the mis hap. She was taken by Peace Ambu lance to Klamath Valley Hospital for treatment of a deep wrist laceration. Two youngsters also were ad mitted to the hospital for treat ment of injuries Wednesday. Ronnie Eugene Reeves, nine months, son of Mr. and Mrs. Le land Reeves, 2622 Tuinage Ave nue, received a broken leg when he fell out of his crib Tuesday morning. He is recovering. Terry House, 8, son of Mr. and Sirs. Norman House, of Route 2, was released Thursday morning after treatment of head lacera tions he received in a fall from the family car. House said he and his three boys were leaving his driveway. A door opened and the boy fell out, he said. -. - f World In Terrible Straits; Time To Open Box Is Now HEARING TESTS for Klamath Falls elementary students were administered this week at Conger School by Harley Branigar, rear, State Board of Health expert. The Klamath Coun ty Department of Health sponsored the visit. Test results will help determine the degree of scholastic handicap among some hard-of-hearing youngsters. Or just what tax you want to pay. A. G. Erickson, Internal Reve nue director for the Oregon Dis trict said today that each year he receives many payments that are not properly identified. As a result, he said, some of the taxpayers involved may not re ceive proper credit, or payments to their tax accounts may not be recorded until after considerable delay occasioned by checking rec ords or exchanging correspondence. In some instances, taxpayers may even continue to receive bills for taxes they had sought to pay, he added. Beachcombers Have Field Day FLORENCE, Ore (AP) Cans and bottles of beer and ale washed ashore here Monday and Tuesday. Beachcombers had a field day. The harvest of liquid refresh ment came from large sections of a refrigerator van that floated ashore in sections. Much of the cargo was broken up and a 2,2110-yara section 01 Siuslaw River shoreline was paved with broken glass and twisted metal. The van apparently was swept off a ship in the recent Pacific storms and then torn apart on jagged reefs offshore from this Oregon coastal community at the mouth of the Siuslaw River. OKs Project MERRILL Members of Merrill American Legion Auxiliary No. 80 approved the project of sponsoring an essay contest to be held in the Merrill High School. Subjects of the contest are "Why My Educa tion is Important to Future of America" and "Why I Love My Country." Prizes will be awarded in each division. Mrs. Lena Buck is essay chairman. Other business transacted at the home of Mrs. Buck included a do nation to be made to the depart ment president's project, McLaren School for Boys. The Americanism chairman requested items concern ing current events.. A cash prize was awarded to the Merrill unit by Helen Anthony, District 4 president, for attaining membership quota. At the close of the meeting, a report on Guatemala was made by Mrs. Buck, Pan-American chair man. Favorite dish of the fisher, a iclative of the mink, is tree-de stroying porcupines. The fisher is the only animal that is seldom hurt by the porcupine s barbed quills. We Will Be . "I'd like to," said the 74-year- old secretary of the Panacea So ciety, "but we cannot open the box unless there are 24 bishops of the Church of England present. "And although we've been try ing with newspaper advertise ments, petitions and other forms of pressure for 44 years, we still cannot persuade enough bishops to gather at the same time." Temple is one of the guardians of what his society calls "Joanna Southcott's Box." Miss Southcott was a prophetess who died in 1814 and the society claims that before her death she wrote out a prescription for all the worlds ills and had it placed in a large box which was then hammered shut with copper nails and bound with stout cord. She laid down in her last testa ment that if the 24 bishops gath ered at a time of crisis and opened the box before a concourse of believers (in her they would find therein the secret of eternal peace and prosperity for humanity-Temple explained that since only Joanna Southcott had the revelation of peaceful existence it was natural that the summit and all other international conferences were foredoomed. "Can I see it?" "Alas, no not until the bish ops gather." I Temple said they had the right; number of bishops in 1018 but thcl clerics wanted the box opened in private. In 10.15 a petition with 31.000 signatures was presented to the Archbishop of Canterbury. But he turned it down. "We are still hopeful," Temple said, "that before it is too late, the bishops will 'open the box.'
