Silver Holloware The Gift That La it A Lifetime BEACHS JEWELERS In The Village Court 834 Main People Read SPOT ADS you are JOYA Our American Christmas Is a happy blend of many customs, both pagan and Christian, from many lands and long ago. Yet each country that has contribut ed to our celebration retains cer tain customs uniquely and charm ingly their own. In Spain, for instance, gifts are mostly toys and candies for chil dren given on the Day of the Three Kings, January 6, which ends the holiday season. It begins on December 8 with the feast of the Immaculate Conception; and early in December, street stalls are set up for selling nativity ccfies and special Christmas can dies. The beautiful and ornate churches are illuminated from within to cast the radiance of festivities. On Christmas Eve, "Noche Bu- ena." meaning literally, "good night," there is revelry reminis cent of our New Year's Eve when the celebrants wear paper hats, blow horns, and shout and sing all night. At midnight mass, the Spanish people join with those all over the Christian world, in sing ing old Christmas carols called "villancicos." As typically Spanish as these Christmas traditions is Myrurgia's beloved fragrance, "Joya," (pro nounced hoya and meaning "jew el). A gift of Joya carries with it a bit of Spain, a touch of the Old World, a special kind of charm. Since it's not custo mary for adults to exchange gifts at Christmas in the land of the castanets, American women can count themselves far luckier than their Spanish sisters. An Amer ican Christmas without at least one gift of perfume would make any of us feel as deprived as the Spanish child who receives lumps of coal instead of candy if he's been naughty. Surprisingly, perhaps, "Joya" is the type of fragrance American women prefer, being a tender bou quet based on jasmine (the flower "jewel" of perfume), faceted for sparkle with carnation spice, and glowing deeply with a woodsy freshness. The perfume is the prize jewel, a dazzling gift of fragrance. But there are also jewel-matched toilet water and co lcgne, reflecting the brilliance of the perfume. Each is set in a jewel-faceted flacon. A gift of any one, or any combination of these three fragrance treasures, is "jewel of a gift" to any woman WHITE LILAC by Dorothy Gray now comes in hand lotion, cologne and dusting powder. The Kerns may be purchased singly or in pairs or trios. This year, Dorothy Gray has a new fragrance, Voltage. The brilliant scent in perfume, cologne, dust ing powder and sets is done in lustrous black with the name in raised letters, alter nating crimson, orange and bright pink making it so new and so different.
