The 1AM represents 2,000 ma chinists employed in West Coast yards. A machinists' strike would Idle another 8.000 craftmen em ployed at the yards, according to Harold J. Gibson, of Seattle, gen eral vice president of the IAM. The machinists are seeking a 15 eent hourly increase. The journey men scale is now $2.72. The ma chinists have turned down an em ployer offer ot a 7-cent hourly wage increase this year and pension program to cost 10 cents an hour starting next year.
