Heard, assistant chair man ot the Young Hepublican Fed eration of Oregon and chairman of the University of Oregon Young Republicans, recently announced that he would he a candidate for FRED W. HEARD was director of the "United Repub ucan victory League, an organi zation formed to elect all Republi cans in November 1958; chair manned the 1958-1959 Klamath County Republican picnics. In his second term as chairman of the U of 0 Young Republicans. ticara states mat his group is the first such organization in the nation to endorse possible candi dacy of Vice President Richard M. Nixon for the I960 presidential election. U of 0 Young Republicans are scheduling visits at the university lor state officials during the com ing months. Upon announcing his candidacy. Heard stated, "The months ahead will be both trying and short for the Republican party. I am con vinced that with, proper leadership and proper working team the Col lege League can become a mighty working GOP political machine in Oregon. Heard, who lives here, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell L. Heard. He will be a sophomore in political science at the university. In 1956 he started participation In Republican politics when he was (elected to be chairman of the Youth For Eisenhower for Klam ath County. He later organized a Klamath County Young Republican Society, served as chairman two years; was selected to be one of Klamath County's first state hoard representatives; was one of four young GOPs to attend the 1957 inauguration of President Eisen hower and during the 1958 primary election in Oregon he served as county chairman for Stale Treas urer Sig Unander in his bid for the gubernatorial nomination. Heard served also as summer publicity director for Mark Hat field's campaign for governor and Weather Table Timber Tracts Sale Reported Two tracts of timber in south cm Douglas County were sold August 13 for $339,837 by the Med. ford District of the Bureau of Land Management. The tracts contained 11.278,000 board feet. One tract on Whitehorse Creek rear Azalea brought a high of $44.20 for Douglas fir during the last sale. The next bureau sale will contain 10,577,000 board feet of timber in Klamath County, district officials lay. The sale will include a total of 16,060.000 feet. The remaining timber is in Jackson and Jose phine counties.
