Local Student Seeks Post
As College League Chief

Timber Tracts
Sale Reported
Two tracts of timber in south
cm Douglas County were sold
August 13 for $339,837 by the Med.
ford District of the Bureau of Land
Management. The tracts contained
11.278,000 board feet.
One tract on Whitehorse Creek
rear Azalea brought a high of
$44.20 for Douglas fir during the
last sale.
The next bureau sale will contain
10,577,000 board feet of timber in
Klamath County, district officials
lay. The sale will include a total
of 16,060.000 feet. The remaining
timber is in Jackson and Jose
phine counties.

eight-month officers' basic course
at Marine Corps Schools, Quanti
co, Virginia, was Jerry L. Kersh
ner.
His wife is the former Ann Hen
dcrson. daughter of Mr. and Mrs
C. A. Henderson. He is the son of
Mrs. Mildred A. Kershner, 1600
Medera Street, Anchorage, Alaska
Kershner is a graduate of the
University of Oregon. .

BERKELEY (UPIl - A fire
gutted the Tupper and Reed Mu
sic Store here Monday causing an
estimated $150,000 damage.
The blaze destroyed about 50
pianos and organs, some of them
antiques. The old building, which
had housed the music store since
1925, was a Berkeley landmark

The prospect of an Eisenhower
visit has already begun to swell
the ranks of tourists who daily
troop through the castle, paying
three shillings 42 cents for the
privilege. The price of admission,
however, does not allow them to
see Eisenhower's flat. That's

The money goes to the National
Trust, a government institution
that looks after and preserves old
houses and other national monu
ments. "The American president will
soon be coming here to stay, won't
he?" asked a Scotswoman sight
seer. "Ah, is he now?" replied
the caretaker, William Miller.
