Kappel writes about communi cations to come in the current "Telephone Engineer & Manage ment" magazine which is just celebrating its 50th birthday with a big fat edition that projects the Inline right straight into the 21st century. Here is what Kappel sees in the future: Automatic dialers, pushbutton calling, pushbutton selection of particular telephone, smaller tel ephone instruments, hand-dee instiumcnts, concealed instru ments using stereophonies, usins iclephones from every room, tel ephone from every corner, tele phone from automobiles and oth er moving vehicles, and phoning front vour vest norket or wrist I Dialing across the ocean is im minent, says Kappel. Also there'll be dala phoning, such things as tickers to the ball game or theater over the telephone. You'll soon be able to talk to our manned satellites in space if the lines aren't busy. "There is no doubt," says Kap pel, "that a new communication will not only make our services more versatile, hut should en- abie us to obtain much improved reliability. STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev today called off the visits to Scan ' dinavian countries he had been planning for August, The Swedish, Danish and Fin nish governments made almost simultaneous announcements of Khrushchev's abrupt change of plans. The Finnish government said it , had been informed in Moscow this morning that "Khrushchev's visit lo Denmark, Norway and Sweden had been postponed. As he is not ..visiting Scandinavia, he will have no opportunity this time lo visit X Finland." The Soviet foreign ministry, in 1. a note to Sweden, said the visit to Stockholm was called off he Jcause of "an anti-Soviet cam s' paign" by the Swedish press and .'fertain political leaders. :: Many Swedish newspapers have been urging the government to -call off the Khrushchev tour. Op " position parties, including the Lib " erals . and Conservatives, have , been arranging protest meetings. The Norwegian labor govern-i-ment newspaper Arbeiderbladet also warned today that "reaction- .. aries were threatening disturb- ances in Oslo during Khrushchev's ..visit and said no action would be taken against them. Khrushchev had been expected to arrive in Stockholm harbor with his wife and two daughters on the Soviet cruiser Sverdlovsk Aug. 15 Only last Friday Khrushchev made a tough speech about Scan dinavia at Szczecin, Poland. He charged that aggressive Western circles wanted to set up rocket bases in Scandinavia to draw So viet nuclear retaliation away from themselves.
