THE OLD Hawkinsville Church, now open only to the large Portuguese congregation on the Feasts of the Holy Ghosts and the Immaculate Conception, is said to have been con verted from e brick building that had housed e saloon end general merchandise store, erected in 1 858 et the time when Hawkinsville, now a ghost town, had 2,000 inhabitants. The building was converted into the edifice es it stands today about 1870 when e Father Farrelly turned his attention to the Hawkinsville Catholics end established the parish. Adventists Plan School A Seventh-day Adventist Vaca tion Bible School is set to begin at the church on the corner of Mortimer Avenue and Main Street Monday, June 8, at 9 a.m. The school will operate Monday through rriday for two weeks ineme of tms year s session is "God's World." A program is planned for kindergarten, primary and junior boys and girls. The itin erary includes craft room projects Bible stories and songs. All chil dren are welcome." There will be no charge. Extension Sunday Slated Sunday ' Extension Sunday will be ob served June 7 in the First Baptist Church honoring extension depart ment members during the morn ing worship. Mrs. T. A. Shaver, superintend ent of this department, is arrang ing transportation for each mem ber to attend the service. Member ships includes those persons who for reasons of age, occupation or other factors are unable to attend church regularly. Church Group Plans Meet The Imperative need for trust in spiritual power will be empha sized at the annual, meeting of the mother church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Bos ton, Massachusetts, on Monday, June 1. An estimated 7.500 Christian Scientist from many parts of the woria Africa, Asia, Australia and other distant points as well as the United States and Canada are en route to the meeting which convenes annually in Boston. A new president and two new readers of the mother church will be announced at the Monday meeting. Members will hear spe cial reports on the growth and progress of Christian Science 'charitable, lecture, publishing healing, and other activities. The healing of physical disease as well as sin through wholly spir itual means, is a distinctive part of Christian Science. A religion based on the words and works of Christ Jesus, Christian Science takes its authority from the Bible Its teachings are set forth in "Sci ence and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Ed dy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science. Those attending the meeting will be laymen. The Christian Science Church has no clergy.
