CITY BRIEFS House To Mull Utility Bill SALEM (AP)-Thc House Tax ation Committee had a change of heart Monday and decided to con sider the Senate-passed bill to as- other classes ot property. The committee tabled the bill last week, but voted Tuesday to take it oft the table. The vote was 5-4. The Senate Taxation Committee has tabled a House bill to add one million dollars a year to in come taxes paid by utilities. The utilities are opposed to both bills. The House Committee sent to the floor without recommendation the bill to provide lower tax rates on timber that is cut on a sustained yield basis. Timber assessments now are based on county-wide averages. Later, he told The Asso ciated Press in San Francisco the spot ought to be about 25 miles north of McCall. Interna' tional Longshoremen's & Ware housemen's Union President Har ry Bridges said Tuesday. Tiie European unionists differ greatly among themselves. Harper. Everyone interested will be welcomed. Blind To Get Encyclopedia LOUISVILLE. Ky. (AP-Thc American Printing House for the Blind announced Monday it will publish the first Braille encyclo- Dedia. Publication of 250 seats of 156 volumes each will be made with a $115,500 gift from the Field Foun dation ot New York and Field En terprise Educational Corp., Chicago. The encyclopedias will be used by schools and libraries serving the blind in this country and Canada. Stereotyping the special edition of The World Book Encyclopedia is expected to take about two years. HELL COMPLETED FORT ROCK-One of the new Irrigation wells in the Fort Rock Valley was completed and tested last week by Sid Munnerlyn for Charles C. Miles. The new Miles well is 135 feet deep and delivers 1600 gallons per minute. Water stanus at 14 feet from the sur face, draw ing down to 45 feet I during pumping. j This is Miles' third well, from which he plans to flood irrigate 60 additional acres. A hoy and a man were critically injured. The victims were Mrs. W. B. Brown, Victoria. B.C.: Mrs. Mar lene A. Wilson, 25, Milnes Landing. B. C, and her daughter, Erin Marlcnc. seven months, and Mrs. T. B. Reece. Westbank, B. C. Hospitalized with critical inju ries were Dick Thut, 12, Sooke. B. C, and T. B. Reece, husband of one of the dead women. The mishap occurred on a straight stretch of highway and police theorized one of the cars may have blown a tire and veered into the path of the other vehicle.
