MeCALL, Idaho (AP) This
central Idaho resort town has just
learned it may be near the new
geographical center of the United
States now that Alaska and
Hawaii are part of the Union.
Officials took the news calmly.
W. 0. Holmes, president of Re

Carlos, Calif., wired city officials
Monday he figures the site is near
McCall. Later, he told The Asso
ciated Press in San Francisco the
spot ought to be about 25 miles
north of McCall.
"I had hopes it was going to
be closer," said McCall's Mayor
Art Roberts, "like in the new de
partment store parking lot or
something."
"That's pretty rocky country,"
he added. "I don"t think we could

U.S. Policies
SEATTLE (AP) The foreign
policies of the United States arc
unpopular among all Western
European trade unionists. Interna'
tional Longshoremen's & Ware
housemen's Union President Har
ry Bridges said Tuesday.
Tiie European unionists differ
greatly among themselves. Bride
is said, hut on the whole they
are opposed to and fear the 'get
tough' and 'brinkmanship' policy
of the U. S. State Department."
The report, prepared for release
at the ILWU biennial convention
here, was based on a seven-week
trip Bridges took through Europe
and the Middle East recently. The
report was also signed by other
union officers. ,
British labor men "are critical
and questioning in regard to the
motives and aims of the Russians
and just as critical and question
ing about American motives as
well, the report said.
The most striking economic
difference between the socialist
and capitalist countries is t h e
absence of unemployment in East
ern Europe," he said.
Labor power is in short supply
in the U.S.S.R. and Czechoslovak
la. And the introduction of new
machines and new methods
urged by the unions in order to
raise production and to relieve
workers of heavy jobs and to free
them for retraining and employ
ment elsewhere."

TTie standard of the world in
Character
The moment a Cadillac comes into view it begins to say
wonderful things about the man at the wheel. It tells of
his fine taste ... his good and practical judgment . . .
his achievements in his chosen field. And the reasons for
this are found in the character of the car itself. For longer
than fifty years, goodness has been the watchword;
craftsmanship the creed. In the lexicon of motordom
Cadillac is the world's best synonym or quality!
