B TEN THOUSAND POUNDS of cheese were brought in to Klamath Falls Creamery tor Kraft's current promotion, the biggest one Kraft has ever put on in Klamath Falls. Gift Certificates The old proverb has it lhat the way lo a man's heart lies through his stomach. But to quote another famous line, this time from a song, "It ain't necessarily so!" expccially at Christmas time when a man's heart has got to be made happy. 3y This year, more than ever, a man is bound to be made happy at Christmas time with a simple slip of paper marked, "Gift Cer tificate." Revolutionizing the whole men's gift-shopping ap proach is this sound and sensible solution to ease the problems of the giver and please the heart of the receiver father or son, hus band or boyfriend. This increasingly popular plan covers virtually everything man or boy could want in his all-important wearables these days. It's the perfect answer to such Christmas shopping puzzlers as: What are his personal tastes in color, style or design? How about correct sizes? How about the need for try ons first? Take hats, for instance. Will the man you have in mind look best in an Ivy League snap brim, a business-like homburg, a rakish Tyrolean or will he be among the first lo wear one of the newly re vived derbies? Does he need a roll-up lightweight travel felt, a tweed hat for sports wear, a cap for casual wear or motoring or, perhaps, one of the smart new mixture felts that blend so well - with tweed topcoats and over coats? ' Contusing? You bet it is. It's a problem to be solved by Both the fellow who is going to wear the hat and the expert who will help him in his selection. However, all of this is happily out of your hands when you give him a hat gift cer tificate. ' The same applies to gifts of sports jackets, slacks, shirts for and suits. Sports jackets and slacks usually need alterations and shirts are among the items most frequently exchangd because the incorrect size was ordered. Suits, of course, call for try-ons. Gift certificates can also be the means of giving an unexpect edly appropriate present. Is there a man in your life who spends a great deal of time on his feet and who you would like to enjoy the comfort of those new ripple sole shoes? Well, a gift certificate for a pair of those foot-savers will have him walking on clouds and enjoying the spirit of Christmas for many a month to come. Handy gift tickets also are the answer for a gift of slippers, for- CHEESE FESTIVAL Kraft Foods Company is building the largest cheese plant under one roof in the world in Las Angeles. When completed, most of Kraft's salad products for the West Coast and Pacific Northwest will come from that plant. Must of Kraft's cheese sold here is made in Idaho, but did you know that quite a bit of it is pro duced in the Klamath Falls Creamery for Kraft right here in Klamath Falls? And it is made from Klamath Basin Grade A Milk, too. mal shoes or casual oxfords. Practically any item of wearing apparel that calls for the right size and the right tailoring is better giv- via the gift certificate route. These include such items as car coats and raincoats, and outerwear garments such as duffle coats, zip per jackets, and ski or skating wear. Gloves, belts, socks, underwear. pajamas and sweaters are some of the other wearables in which size and tailoring are important either for comfort? or appearance. There are even some items such as neckties, handkerchieis, mut flers and leather goods that pre sent no size problem but that he would rather select for himsclt and these, too.' can be best given to the highly selective dresser by way of a gift certificate. SEAFOOD A week in October is chosen 'annually as National Fish and Seafood Week by the fishing in dustry and the U.S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries. This is be cause in late summer and early fall the oceans, lakes and rivers of our country yield their greatest harvest of many varieties of fish and shellfish. The Kraft salesmen say the Klamath Basin is a good cheese area and consumes more than the national average. More than 20 varieties were sampled over the weekend at the Low Cost "cheese hut" put up by Bob Van Laning ham for the cheese festival. Cheese has a nice vocabulary of its own. Swiss cheese that is full of holes is known as "big eyed" Swiss if it shows up without holes it may be said to be "blind as a bat." Because Swiss cheese is rindless and can't be X-rayed to see if it has holes, if it comes up solid after curing, it has to be ground up and made into process cheese because Swiss cheese must have "eyes." Much cheese is made in blocks now instead of wheels and the blocks range in weight from 10 to 40 pounds. The manufacturers say it is more economical and that the saving is passed on to the consum er. CLEANLINESS TIPS This is the time of year to put away the outdoor barbecue grills and to clean the filter of the air conditioner before covering the unit for the winter. Plastic and aluminum filters and the remov able parts of the barbecue should be washed with hot soap or de tergent suds, rinsed under t h e faucet and dried before storing. One of the newest save-your-clolhes gadgets is a "slipcover" for your slcam iron. This permits you to press even dark fabrics without leaving a shine. It's commonly believed that only three plants in the United States are harmful to touch poison oak, poison sumac and poison ivy. If you even suspect that you have been in contact with any of the three, scrub all exposed areas of your skin as soon as possible with thick, warm-to-hot suds. Wash twice to make sure, then rinse well. There are also nettles, com mon in hills, that sting upon con tact.
