American tourists still recognized him. When Allen returns to his reg ular spot on NBC-TV Sunday eve ning, his mustache will stay for one performance. Allen will be present all season. Next summer, he confirmed, the Allen Show will move to Holly wood for its permanent home. "I like California," he said the other day. "I like to live and work there and I've bought a home there. On their trip to Europe this summer, Allen, his wife and two of his sons went to England, then crossed over to Paris where they rented a car and drove south through France and into Italy. "It was my first trip," he said, "and now 1 can't wait to go back to Europe. If I could look into the crystal ball and see that I'd be on television every week for the next five years I'd be disappoint ed. In a year or two I'd like to be on every second week. Television is thrilling, but It's confining." There hasn't been anything con fined, however,, about his activi ties during this so-called vacation. He has been writing songs and several albums of his music have been recorded. He's working on a book of cartoons. And, as NOTICE! Paul V. At al most any hour he can reach in almost any pocket and pull out a note. Furthermore, he can al ways make out what it says. Battle Won, Singer Claims HOLLYWOOD UPI Actress singer Pearl Bailey said today she has won her battle to eliminate "undignified and unnatural" Ne gro dialect from the all-Negro movie 'Porgy and Bess." Miss bailey flared up at a minor actor during rehearsals when he repeatedly used the line, "Ain't I done told you?" "It's been cleared up now," she said. "I said I'd ask for changes in the cast if that sort of stuff continued. But it stopped, which is the way it should have been in the first place. "Neither, Sam Goldwyn, the producer! nor Otto Premingcr, the director, said there should be any dialect. Mr. Preminger said right at the beginning that if there was something we didn't like just leave it out. "But some of the kids who ap peared in the show in New York and got used to the dialect con tinued to use it. Nobody told them to." The George Gershwin folk op era has been in a constant state of turmoil since production start ed. First the sound stage burned down and had to be rebuilt. "I was plenty serious about that dialect business," said Miss Bail ey. "We're still rehearsing, and I wanted it stopped before we start ed shooting. "I told this kid and some of the others that it's insane to use it if it's not insisted on. It's losing your dignity. It's undignified and unnatural. Guinness long has been known as a faceless actor or, paradoxi cally, the man with 1,000 faces. Joanne, who won an Oscar for "The Three Faces of Eve," act ually is the girl of 1,000 faces. Friends of the actress often pass her on the 20th Century-Fox lot and fail to speak simply because they fail to recognize her. Of hun dreds of photographs of her filed away in the publicity department there are few that look alika. I It's more than hair-dos, Joanne believes, its something inside her The movies' great box-office draws always have been definite personalities both on and off screen. Tire Blowout Causes Fire A tire blowout apparently led to a lire on a tractor trailer this weekend, just north of Klamath rails on Highway 97. The rouniy fire department rc- ports ITiat it was called by slate police to the scales near Wocus at 11:16 p.m. Saturday, to put out a fire on a box trailer belonging to Oregon Technical lnlilute. The floor and sides of the trailer, as well cf lie four tires, were ex tensively .damaged. So 'say Jacques Bergerac, the handsome French actor, who is currently playing a Basque in a Western movie called "Thunder in the Sun." Jacques is one of the few, if not the only. French actor to star in a Western. But he doesn't con sider that the least bit odd com pared with the making of "Girl." When I was in Hollywood, 1 talked with MG.M about a part in the movie but nothing came of it so I left for France to make an other movie there." he said. 'I drove all day from Paris to Biarritz, went to sleep and got up the next day. I went to a bullfight. I had forgotten all about 'Gigi' because I read where they had started production in Paris and that a French actor had been signed for my role. That night I return from the bulltight and the whole town knotvs that MGM has been trying to locate me. Vincente Minelli, the director, had called the police, the fire department even the mayor. "I called him in Paris. He want ed to know how soon I could get there. I said 1 had my- car and could drive back the next day. "Mot . ouick enoueh. He would send a plane for me. They had hundreds of extras waiting on the set for the scene. "So a big four-engine plane ar rived early in the morning and I flew back to Paris in it all alone. By the time we arrived, it was too late for shooting so the ex tras were dismissed. "Besides, I had to make a deal. That meant I had to call my agent in Hollywood, and late that night, the deal was made. "Next day on the set, a replica of an ice palace, came the army of extras and me but the script was not yet ready so there was no shooting. That night Minelli got on the phone with Alan Lerner, who was in Hollywood, and Lerner dictated the scene. "Again next day on the set, all the extras there, the scene is ready to shoot. I Dlav an ice skat' ing instructor who must give les sons to Eva Gabor. "As the cameras are about to turn, I make one comment that causes a mild panic. I tell them that I have never been on ice skates before. Again the extras are dismissed. "A professional ice skating in structor is hired to teach me how to skate. I take lessons for sev eral hours but you cannot learn to skate that fast especially if you are to play an expert Next comes the idea of putting Eva and I on a movable platform that can be glided across the ice. We just move our shoulders as skaters do the scene is shot, al most a week from the time I left Biarritz." But that is not all. "That particular scene where I give Eva skating lessons is cut from the finished picture. Crazee business." STORK DUE HOLLYWOOD (AP) Actress .
