Three-year-old Susie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Hamilton III and the family is visiting Hamilton's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Ft. A. McDonald, OTI Road, during his Navy leave before reporting in to school in San Francisco. He was stationed in Japan for 18 months and his family was with him for the last year. The dog, who answers only to Japanese commands, will be on display at the Klamath Dog Fanciers' all breed show at the fairgrounds on August 30. LittleKnown Japanese Breed Of Dog Slated In Local Dog Show Aug. 30 Among the 400 dogs to be seen at the Klamath Dog Fanciers' AKC licensed show on August 30 will be the first Akita ever dis played in Klamath Falls. There are only 92 known Akitas In the United States and this one, Teruhime, called Aka (meaning red) for short, was brought here by Kathy McDonald's cousin, Tom Hamilton and his family, from Ja pan this week. The breed is reg istered with the Nippon Kennel Club and the Japanese Kennel Club but has not yet received American Kennel Club recogni tion. The breed came from Manchur ia and was brought to a northern Island of Japan where the dogs were used as long as 100 years ago for hunting by the feudal over lords. They will leave Aka with Mrs. McDonald in the Kav - Mac Kennels here until they find living accommodations in the Bay Area where the family will remain dur ing his school assignment. 2-Way Radio Rig Added WEED A two-way radio is the most recent equipment in stalled in the Weed Community Ambulance, James Mallory, presi dent of the Weed Chamber of Commerce announced this week. With the installation of the radio system, the ambulance drivers will now be in direct contact with the International Paper Company fire- tower radio which is on a fre quency with the California High way Patrol, Yrcka office, and the Weed, Mount Shasta and Dunsmuir police departments. The Weed po lice radio is on a frequency with '.he Siskiyou County Sheriff's of fice, thus'making a complete hook up to meet any emergency need during the ambulance's course of travel or operation. The ambulance was a commun- ily gift presented in 1956 by the Mallory Chevrolet Company of Weed and for use to Weed resi dents and those of neighboring communities. It has b e e n ade quately equipped to meet all reg ulation requirements through con tributions from residents through out the county. The ambulance is housed at the International Paper Company fire s t a t i on and is manned by the off-duty firemen wnen needed. Bills on the secured rolls are being prepared on a 1.14 tax rate which is $1 per $100 assessed valuation, the general tax rate: .05 for parks, music end advertising. .07 for planning, and .02 for civil defense. New home construction, home improvements and the new post office are primarily credited wilh the rise in real estate assessed values.
