NOW SHOWING! i ma eviih in PICTURE IS' PTE Office Says More At Work VREKA According to a report released early this week by GeorEe Van Buskirk, head of the Yrcka office of the Stale Department of Kmployment, I h e employment problem is showing considerable improvement. The active file of job applica tions, in Van Buskirk's office, showed a decrease from 8'J1 in April to only 379 in May. Further figures released by Van Buskirk disclosed that continued claims paid also showed a vast decrease from 2,451 in April to 9X in May. He stated that very little of this was due to exhaus tion of unemployment insurance benefits. An increase in job openings was shown listed as 129 in May com pared to only 67 in April. With 75 persons finding jobs Ihc Yreka office, May shows al most 50 per cent increase over the 53 in April. In comparing figures of contin ued claims of May 1958 to May 1957, shows an increase, 999 this year as to 768 last year. Place ments in May 1958, were about 25 per cent below those for May, laa. Van Buskirk stated that "It looks like this year will be almost the same as 1957, with no drop in employment till late in Novem ber. He also said, "I do anticipate a tairiy ncavy unemployment in surance claim this winter, though." Due to high school graduates and vacationing college students entering the labor market. Van buskirk stated he expects an in crease in job applications, and that the department will be concerned in placing as many of these young people in jobs, as is possible, es pecially those who need the work in order to continue their educa tions. O Newspaper SPOT ADS are inexpensive repeater daily (4 Graham Winds Up Crusade In Bay Area SAN FRANCISCO Ml Billy Graham, who has ended his sev en-week evangelistic battle with the Devil here, wants the fervor to linger. "Carry the spirit of revival back to your churches," he told a crowd of 18,500 jammed into the Cow Palace for the final crusade ses sion yesterday. Get into that church, Graham pleaded. "If you wait a week or two. Satan will take advantage of you." He declared to Ihe throng packed into the 16,500-seat arena that "some of you are like Judas. You are greedy and will sell your so-1 and your future for a lew pieces of silver. Some of those who steal from God are those with the most money." Turning to another matter of money, the North Carolina preacher said advance contribu tions and weekday offerings for Ihe free meetings might not have met all espenses of the crusade, which he estimated at $400,000. As assistants toured the aisles eollecling offerings, he asked "that you give generously lo make sure all expenses are met." Totals were not immediately available. Total attendance for the seven weeks rose to 696,525. The 570 go ing forward in "decisions (or Christ" brought that total to 23,- 575. "If you live less than your best vou are committing a sin. Just enough religion to be respectable is one of the sins that nailed Jesus to the cross, Graham said. "Christ went a long way for you. Vou can take a few steps for him." Alter visiting Vnsemite National Park tomorrow with his 13 year oh' daughter Virginia. Graham will rest until Sunday hen he will speak at a Seals Stadium ral ly here.
