Sunday to maintain their league lead after dropping a non-league game Saturday night to Camp white s semi-pro club. Sunday at Fort Jones, manager Irv Whitt s club edged Scott Val ley 5-4 to keep a half-game lead in the Northern California League standings ahead of Mount Shasta. Saturday night at Gem Stadium, . the Kubs bowed to Camp White 8-0. Both Klamath and Mount Shas la won Sunday to keep the race tight. Mount Shasta stopped Duns muir 7-3. In the other league game yesterday. Yreka handed Weed its third defeat of the season, 10-8. Dave D'Olivo, the big Southern Oregon College basketball and baseball star, just missed picking up a shutout triumph over Scott Valley Stars yesterday, b u t also came close to losing the game. D Oiivo blanked the Stars on four hits over the first eight innings until a grand-slam home run in the boltom of the ninth ruined his bid for a shutout. Scott Valley loaded the bases with none out on two singles and a walk. Pitcher-first baseman Bob Martin lashed one of D'Olivo's of ferings out of the park scoring an ot the stars runs in a bunch Scott Valley pushed another run ner as far as third base before D'Olivo got the final two outs on an infield grounder and pop up. Klamath's scoring was scattered out ono in the first, two in the third and one more in each of the fourth and seventh innings as three Scott Valley hurlers took turns on the mound. The eventual winning run came in the top of the seventh when Whitt led off with a triple. He scored on Jerry Burke's single to left center. Whitt had a perfect day at the plate, picking up five hits in as many trips, plus driv ing in two of Klamath runs. Saturday night at ticm Stadium the Kubs faced the fastballing Don aanford, former University of Ore gon hurler who set them down with 10 scattered hits while strik ing out 13. The game was a bat ue oi spccnoaiiors in lirst live in nings as Klamath had lefty Rod McPhail on the hill. Mcl'hail set eight Camp While hitters down on strikes in the time he worked. Wayne Hironaka, the little Japa nese southpaw who just joined the team late last week, worked the final four innings in relief and gave up only one run. Klamath opened the game in their half of llio first by scoring three runs on a single by Scott Hartley, Fran Miller's triple, Dorm Martin's double and an error. But that was all for the Kubs until incy reached hanlnrd for two more tallies in the fifth inning, but by this time they were trailing 7-5. Camp White put together t w o big innings to clinch the game A lour-run second inning and a three-run fifth gave the visitors the nod. Their final score came in the ninth The Kubs countered once in the ninth on Ilarley's double and an error, but fell short by two runs Harley and firstbaseman George Hanson led Klamath's hitting in a losing cause. Harley blasted out lour hits in five times at bat while Hanson collected three-for-four, two going for doubles. In other Northern Cal action Sun- day, Yreka and Mount Shasta had fairly easy times in posting their victories. Mount Shasta spoiled Dunsmuir a 3-2 lead in Ihe first inning but came back to move ahead 5-3 alt er two innings. Another two run output in Ihe fifth "iced" the game lor me nosts. Dunsmuir s Gary nisey nomered with one runner on in the ninth inning, but failed to touch second base and the two runds didn t count. Rick Palfini had two hits for Mount Shasta, one a double.
