Superintendent Arnold Gralapp and Principal Charles Carlson ex plained during the tour of the new structure that it makes possible a sorely needed expansion program at the high school and extends the maximum enrollment of the school to about 2,000 students. The school without the wing would accommo date 1,700 students. Included in the new structure are large and modern classroom facilities for physics and chem istry instruction, a photography classroom, three large music class rooms, four small instrumental practice rooms, a large new cafe teria and kitchen, faculty dining quarters, and a multipurpose stage which will be used for boys and girls physical education pro grams. Superintendent Gralapp explains that occupancy of the quarters within the new wing, coupled with the conversion of rooms in the main building which has been re lieved by Ihe wing facilities, will Oregon Weather Eastern Oregon Fair except becoming partly cloudy in after noon with scattered thundershow ers and continued warm through Tuesday. "For example," Gralapp points out, "one portion of the old cate teria will be made into a 'cut' room for students who are not feeling well, and the other section will be' made into a nursing room. The main portion of the old cafe teria . will be sectioned off and made into four classrooms. At the same time, the space occupied by the former kitchen will permit a badly needed expansion of t h e girls physical education dressing rooms." The new cafeteria, except for the noon hours when meals are being served, will be used as a spacious study hall and will there by permit four rooms in the main building to be used as instruction classrooms. One of the former music rooms in the main building will now be used for vocational education in struction. The old band room on the second floor of the' main build ing will be employed as a lecture room, for physical education and other departments. Ihe former orchestra room in Ihe main euilding will become the mats and weight lifting room for the physical education department Gralapp adds that both the for mer band room and the orchestra room are of such size that they can each be petitioned into two full size classrooms if the future enrollments at the high school de mand the expansion. The old physics room in the main building is now being used as a biology room, and the former chemistry room is of such size that it can be partitioned and made into two regulation class rooms. "Another feature of the new wing which will add classroom space is the faculty dining quar ters," Gralapp said. "The room on the same basis as the newT cafeteria, will be employed as a classroom at all times except dur ing the noon hour." Principal Carlson told visitors during the dedication that the new wing also permits the school s fun damental educational program to be centralized in the main portion around the library, while the cafe teria, auditorium, music, vocation al and physical education pro- grams have been moved to the outlying reaches of the building. Moose Hold Joint Meeting MERRILL A combined meet ing of the Merrill Moose Lodge and Women of the Moose Merrill Chapter No. 18 was held at the Moose Lodge on Tuesday evening. May 20, beginning with a polluck dinner at 7 o'clock. The officers of the lodge and auxiliary presented' an impressive memorial service for the mem bers. The occasion also marked the 21st birthday anniversary of the women's auxiliary. Special tribute was made to Mrs. Max Hartlerode and Mrs. Dovie Heeder who are Women of the Moose charter members. Bogus Insurance Racket Ring Broken WALLA , WALLA (AP) Two men who admitted taking part in automobile insurance claims fraud have been sentenced up to 15 years in prison. Sentenced on their plea of guilty to grand larceny are Clifford G Perkins, 45, and Albert Schoene 33. both of the Walla Walla area Their wives were given proba tion sentences May 25 after they admitted a part in the operation which involved staged rear-end collisions. The prosecution said in court the operations extended into Idaho, Washington, Oregon an California and may have involved fraudulent claims totaling $100, 000. Twenty-six persons were volved in the ring, officers said Most of the persons were related and used dozens of aliases.
