Novotny. manager, VA Re gional Office, Portland, announced today that veterans of WW II have two more years until July 25, 1960 to apply for GI loans under the Veterans Administration guaranty program. The extension is authorized by Public Law 85-364. Novotnv explained that the July) 25, 1960 deadline for guaranteed loans means that VA must receive the lender's loan guaranty appli cation by that dale, and the lender has one year from July 25, 1960 to close the loan. The 1960 deadline does not ap ply to VA-guarantced loans for Korean conflict period veterans, who have until January 31, 1965, to use that benefit, Novotny point ed out. He also called attention to a provision of the law which in creases interest rale to 4.75 per cent from 4.50, and to a VA regu lation eliminating VA's require ment for a down payment. Novotnv also emphasized that while VA may waive the down payment, lenders may require a veteran to make a down payment as a condition for getting the loan. Closing costs involved in GI home loans must be paid in cash by the veteran at the time of closing the loan, whether or not any additional down payment is required. These costs cannot be included in the loan useu. Nnvotnv also said that veterans desiring to obtain a GI loan should contact a private lender for the loan, and after arrangements nave been made, the loan application will be forwarded to the VA of fice for approval. Veterans should contact the Re gional Office of the Veterans Ad ministration 208 S. W. 5in Avenue. Portland. Oregon, for additional information on GI loans.
