MAY 21. 195H Disney Signs Scotch Lass To Long-Term Contract By BOB THOMAS HOLLYWOOD W-To a green eyed Scot beauty named Janei Munro goes the honor of being (he first adult actress to be signed to a long contract by Walt Disney Except for an occasional mop pet, (he females have been larpel neglected at the Disney studio Look at Minnie Mouse. What mu les has she had in the last in years? Or Clarabelle Cow, for thai matter? Walt is apparently taking steps to end this discrimination. And he teems to have made a good choice for his starter. Janet is a talented 23-year-old who strikes you as an auburn-haired June Allyson. Her bright eyes blink at you with the same innocent guile, then crinkle into an all-out smile. She's here now on her first trip to Hollywood, playing the female lead in the leprechaun lark, "Dar by O'Gill and the Little People." This summer, she goes to Switzer land to appear opposite James MacArthur in "Banner in the Sky." She is under contract for a yearly picture in the next five years. How did she get here? On the other hand, neither is Honor Society Names Pair LAKEVIEW Two o the 34 seniors at the University of Ore gon elected last Thursday night to membership in Phi Bella Kap pa were Arlene Clark and James Lynch, both of Lakeview. Phi Bella Kappa is the national lib eral arts scholastic honorary. Arlene, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Clark, was also se lected the previous Monday as one of three senior women to be eiven a leadership award by the As sociated Women Students organi zation. During her years at the University she has been active in campus service and social activ ities and was elected to Kwama. Phi Theta Upsilon and Mortar Hoard. She is a member of Alpha Phi sorority and a major in so ciology. Lynch, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Con Lynch of Lakeview. recently achieved a national level when he was named by the U.S. Army Quartermaster Association as top military student in the nation. He has" held the ROTC cadet rank of lieutenant colopel. At the gradu ation review on May 2!i of the Air Force and Army ROTC cadet corps he will be awarded a Quar termaster Scholastic Key. He has served as student body president during the past year, which is a climax to class leadership during the' previous three years. His col lege honorary list includes Phi l-Jta Sigma. Skull and Dagger. Druids, Scabbard and Blade and Friars. He is a major in business administration and a member of Alpha Tan Omega fraternity. Another Lake County girl at the university who was one of the three sophomore women named for an AW'S leadership award is Jo- lene Banasco, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Banasco of Plush. Dur ing her sophomore year Jolene was named business manager of the Oregana, the University of Ore gon yearbook. She is a member of Kappa -Alpha Theta sorority. She was also pledged by Phi Theta Upsilon, junior women's service honorary. Heidi Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Jones, Lakeview. re ceived second place in the Peter Pauper Press Easay contest. Hei di is a freshman architecture stu dent at the University. WHAT DO YOU COLLECT? WASHINGTON (UP) Wendell B, Barney, the Small Business ad ministrator, said a businessman wrote one of the government's larger agencies: "I understand that you collect business statistics. Henning, a highly successful writer of comedy who began his apprenticeship with the old Fibber McUee and Molly radio program, gave an interesting insight the oth er day into how the series was conceived, "I've long been an admirer of Bob Cummings' acting," he said, "and in a comedy role I especial ly visualized him as an ineffectual single man. "At first I thought Cummings might be a commercial artist, but not many people know exactly what a commercial artist does. Then it occurred to me that every body knows what a photographer is. So why not make him a pro fessional photographer who makes pictures of beautiful girls? "But I wanted to balance his carefree bachelor existence with family responsibilities though not to the extent of marriage. The wise course seemed to be to fence him in with a widowed sister to whom he had obligations, and with a woman assistant who would make sure there wasn't any hanky-panky with the beautiful girls around his studio. So the idea of Schullzy was conceived, a nice girl who's in love with him and wants to protect him." Henning says that the viewing public is constantly pulling for Schultzy, played by Ann B. Davis, who this year won an Emmy Award for her handling of the role. It would be a different show. And Henning- likes to quote a wise line uttered by Lucille Ball when somebody wanted to change the "I Love Lucy" show: "Don't fool around with success."
