Chiloquin Area Residents Plan Fund Drive Events (Radio-J(S oq CHILOQUIN An enthusinstic crowd Thursday night at the Chil oquin city hall heard plans for benefits, proceeds of which will go to the purchase of a new ambu lance for the area. Chairman Clyde Leake presided over the meeting and received reports from representatives sent out to organ izations from the first meeting a week ago. The goal for the fund is $3,000. The Klamath Falls Barbershop pers, It was reported by Bill Lo- renz, have agreed to give a ben efit performance in Chiloquin in April, with the firemen sponsor lng the event. First of the scheduled events Is a talent show at the old. school gym Saturday. March 8, with ticket prices at 75 'cents, 50 cents and 25 cents. Frizes will be awarded by the sponsoring Klamath discus sion group to both adults and chil dren for first, second and third place winners. Other leaders here for the West ern Governors Conference were voicing alarm over the metal min ing industry. Gov. Robert D. Holmes of Ore gon said "There is a possibility Oregon may come back very quickly." ' it looks as u we may be back in pretty fair shape in the next six weeks," agreed Gov. Albert i D. Rosellini. Holmes and Rosellini are Democrats. Robert T. Smylie, Idaho's Re publican governor, said conditions in his state were better than in most Western states, with a de cline in the new unemployment claims filed in the past 'sight or nine weeks. Smylie joined the oth;r West ern executives in deploimg the condition of the mining industry. He said an increase is needed in tariffs on lead and zinc imported into the United States. Gov. Ernest W. March 4, in the girls gym at Klninath I'nion High School at 6:30 p.m. Those auditioning need not be present on both dates, but must bring the costumes and ac companiment they intend to use on the program. Pelicana this year as in the past sponsored by the Script and Microphone Guild of Klamath Un ion High School and the Exchange Club of Klamath Falls. The pro ducer of this program Is Charles oodhouse, faculty member at Kl'HS and director of the Hadio and Television Services of the pub lic schools.
