Plan Fund Drive Events

CHILOQUIN An enthusinstic
crowd Thursday night at the Chil
oquin city hall heard plans for
benefits, proceeds of which will go
to the purchase of a new ambu
lance for the area. Chairman
Clyde Leake presided over the
meeting and received reports from
representatives sent out to organ
izations from the first meeting a
week ago. The goal for the fund
is $3,000.
The Klamath Falls Barbershop
pers, It was reported by Bill Lo-
renz, have agreed to give a ben
efit performance in Chiloquin in
April, with the firemen sponsor
lng the event.
First of the scheduled events Is a
talent show at the old. school gym
Saturday. March 8, with ticket
prices at 75 'cents, 50 cents and
25 cents. Frizes will be awarded
by the sponsoring Klamath discus
sion group to both adults and chil
dren for first, second and third
place winners.
The Fire Belles have planned
a card party for Friday, March
14, which will be held at the Ma
sonic Hall. Bridge, pinochle, and

planned by the Sportsmen Pilots
of Oregon, local chapter. There
are several planes and pilots who
can carry passengers.

Eastern Star have no details
worked out yet on a pancake feed
they are planning, with all pro
ceeds to be given to the fund
The Reservation Jaycees pledged
$100 plus any additional funds
funds raised beyond the set goal of
profit from the coming All Indian
Basketball Tournament to be held
March 19-22. .
The Firemen have purchased
steel water tower and win give
50 per cent of the profit from re
sale of the sheet metal, machine
and fixtures. Anyone interested in
used melal may contact Bill
Barnes or other of the firemen
In addition to hearing the re
ports, committees were also ap
pointed to contact industries for
collections. The next meeting has
been set for the city hall Thursday,
March 6.

Monday said they were concerned
but optimistic over the employ
ment situation in their states.
Other leaders here for the West
ern Governors Conference were
voicing alarm over the metal min
ing industry.
Gov. Robert D. Holmes of Ore
gon said "There is a possibility
Oregon may come back very
quickly."

six weeks," agreed Gov. Albert i
D. Rosellini. Holmes and Rosellini
are Democrats.
Robert T. Smylie, Idaho's Re
publican governor, said conditions
in his state were better than in
most Western states, with a de
cline in the new unemployment
claims filed in the past 'sight or
nine weeks.
Smylie joined the oth;r West
ern executives in deploimg the
condition of the mining industry.
He said an increase is needed in
tariffs on lead and zinc imported
into the United States.
Gov. Ernest W. McFurland of
Arizona laid a tariff also Is need
ed on copper to bring that Indus
try back into a position to com-,;.

For Pelicana
Auditions for the 1958 Pelicana
variety show will be held on Fri
day, February 28, and Tuesday.
March 4, in the girls gym at
Klninath I'nion High School at
6:30 p.m. Those auditioning need
not be present on both dates, but
must bring the costumes and ac
companiment they intend to use
on the program.
Pelicana this year as in the past
sponsored by the Script and
Microphone Guild of Klamath Un
ion High School and the Exchange
Club of Klamath Falls. The pro
ducer of this program Is Charles
oodhouse, faculty member at
Kl'HS and director of the Hadio

ing was called to order by pres
ident, Peter Scula. Roll was called
and the minutes were read.
Victor Melan gave a report on
selecting an animal. Don Milani
also gave one on taking rare of
a young ralf.
Don Alt was given a report on
showmanship to be given next
month at the meeting at Dixie
Ager's house, March 13.
Mrs. Milani served valentine
cookies and punch.
