OREGON PAGE THREE' Safety Film To Be Shown Films stressing the dangers' of handling blasting caps and other forms of explosives are now being shown to students within tne city school system. The program is un der sponsorship of the K 1 a m a t h Falls Police Junior Rifle Club, and the film material was obtained through courtesy of the DuPdnt Company. The film will also be shown dur ing rifle club and gun safety courses sponsored by the Klamath falls i'olice Beneficiary Associa tion. Chief of Detectives Bud Adkins explains that several cases of chil dren playing with dynamite caps have been handled during recent years, and that an all-out effort is 'being made to familiarize both the young persons and adults with the explosive quality and danger ousness associated with the blast ing caps. "Don't fool with the caps." ad vise the police officials. "If you find any of them at abandoned building sites or gravel pits, don't handle them . . . notify the police and they will be properly and safe ly disposed of." Suit Filed On Accident A $79,000 damage action has been filed by . Raymond G. Bud den against Carl Clifford Dahl gren Jr. The action stems from an Aug ust 15, 1957, accident at the inter section of Klamath Avenue and Ninth Street, during which the automobile driven by Dahlgren re portedly struck Budden while the latter was crossing Klamath Ave nue within the designated cross walk area. The plaintiff states that his hip was fractured, and that he is still suffering from a nervous condition caused by the shock. The plaintiff further stales that Dahlgren oper ated the vehicle in a careless and negligent manner, with such oper ation leading to the accident. Dedication Set For New Hall King Hall, named In honor of the late Fred C. King of Port land, will be dedicated on the Ore gon Technical Institute campus be ginning at 1 p.m. Friday, Novem ber 15. OTI Director Winston Purvinc adds that J. V. Owens will be the principal speaker, and that the benediction will be given by Rev. Dale Hewitt of the First Pres byterian Church. King was a member of the first OTI Advisory Council when the institute was launched in 1947. established the first student loan fund at the school, and was con stantly working for the better ment of the school. In addition to other civic and school officials, members of the OTI Advisory Council will be on hand for the dedicatory cere monies Friday. YOUTH SENTENCED An 18-year-old Merrill youth has been sentenced to 90 days in the county jail on charges of stealing a tire and wheel in Klamath Falls. Sentenced in district court on the larceny charge was Allen L. Huff. The arrest was made by city police. GOP Group Joins Event CIIILOQl'IN Members of the Chiloquin-Wood River Republican Club voted to participate in the observance of Ileritare Day on Saturday, November 2. when Sec retary of State Mark Hatfield and State Treasurer Sig Unander will be in Klamath County. Fred Heard, chairman of the Young Republican Club of Klam ath Falls, outlined plans for the observance and it was voted to have a coffee hour on that date in Chiloquin. The social hour will be nonpartisan and will be held in the Chiloquin Masonic Hall, starting at 9:30 a.m. on November 23. At the mecling of the group on November 7 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Lorenz in Chilo quin, Mrs. Josephine Kittredge of Klamath Falls spoke on the state tax situation. She was introduced by Ben Murphy, chairman. Several members of the Chiloquin-Wood River Republican Club joined the Nonpartisan Tax League at the meeting. Also attending from Klamath Falls were City Councilman James Barnes and Klamath Coun ty Treasurer Eva Cook. A social hour followed the business meeting. Fremont Junior High By MARTHA PIERSON I On October 25, the 1957 Fremont Carnival was held at the school. At 7:30 p.m., a program was pre sented to the parents in the audi 'orium. It consisted of a boys' quartet, a one-act play, a sack dance, and two other dances. Among the featured activities were the cake walk, the hat boolh, and the plant booth. The 1957 magazine drive began on October 29. This sale is an all-school participation. The mon ey will be used for school activities. On October 23, Ray Dixon, a make-up artist, entertained the students in a national assembly. He used students as models and the make-up was not only very well done, but it was surprising to see the changes that could be made. KFJII football teams, the Regu lars, coached by Mr. Kemnitzer, and the Midgets, coached by Mr. M'PrS hflVf had a haltni than average record. The Regulars won wo, uea one, ana lost one. Alia mont has requested another game. The Midgets have won four games and lost one. Mrs. Todd,, our English and newspaper teacher, had surgery at Klamath Valley Hospital on No vember. 5. Hearing Waived In Check Case Clement Howell, 26-year-old Klamath Falls man, has waived nreliminarv hearing on charges of passing bad checks and has been bound over to the grand jury, t ne action was Tuesday morning in the district court of Judge u. fc. van Vactor. The arrest was made by the city police, and Howell was charged with obtaining money under false pretenses involving a SoO cnecK.
